Some of the "pirates of where-ever" factions are actually normal factions with a weird name. I know because my starting faction was a "pirates" faction. So.... you just attacked a random nation, good job!

You can Fight the Ai but you need a good ammount of fire Power and shield. and Most time other enemys Spawn in the Fight and is gets to a 5 faction Battle.

You can get said artifact from operation exodus which requires you to find beacons to start it at least that's how I found mine in my game (technically the two I have cause at the end of the quest if you repeat part of the dialogue they drop another one which I found out accidentally). Recommend you have an item equiped that can highlight beacons for you (item scanners who's icon reminds me of a hubcap) or you will have to do a lot of searching in sectors. Also the ai boss moves around occasionally.

I could fight it without having an artifact, but it spawned at a distress signal (pirate ambush), so that might have bugged it out.

You can actually run into The AI as a random encounter while exploring sectors with hidden mass/energy signals that are not faction hub sectors. I have killed it twice now, and I don't have the artifact and never talked to it. If you run into it as a random encounter it will be hostile and chase you at around 400 m/s.

I got several XSTN-K upgrades from defeating the Bosses Swoks which appeared many times but, even with 12 armed turrets, I flew away when I then met the AI. I need trinium turrets I think

Awesome combat / scrapping session. Along with Salvage beams for anti hull / armor weaponry I would personally advise keeping an eye out for high damage / accuracy plasma turrets to melt shields along with chainguns which have x% to penetrate (ignore) shields) until you find railguns / launchers which track. Of the Force turrets "Push" seems to be the best type though I've noticed in some faction wars large boats with both push and pull turrets can essentially immobilize enemy ships when used simultaneously.

Lath when scrapping you dont need to scrap the hull blocks because they give you barely any materials and take ages to scrap, so instead go for generators and shields

When you're finished killing an enemy ship, shoot at it until there's nothing left, there's a chance on every block to find modules. High ROF weapons are great for spraying the ships down. Salvaging Turrets do the same but much slower (with metals).

lathrix, I may have said as much before, you can keep that unarmed chip on your Attack ship and equip salvaging turrets, which do dmg directly to the hull. they don't do anything to shield unfortunately, but can do great dmg once their shield has fallen. an upside to this is that you get the mat that that ship is made up, and have a higher chance to get turrets and systems from wreckages

To answer 2 of your questions: 1) Yes, Salvage lasers make fantastic brawling weapons, for several reasons. 2) you can snipe weapons off of enemy ships and they have a fairly high chance of popping off as loot you can pick up. You can of course get them from salvaging/blowing up wreckage as well but then they share the loot table with all the other systems modules that can drop as well so are rarer drops.

There's a key which selects the nearest enemy (I think it's R by default) - makes it easy to find if any are left.

It shows you what cargo is in a wreckage if you are close to it (or have powerful scanner upgrades) next to the healthbar of the enemy, so you can figure out which ones are worth hitting.

lathrix make a carrier of 5 mining fighters and 50 salvaging fighters , then after killing a ton of enemies bring this in as just a hoarder and collects everything

The firepower rating here is a good one. It has been my experience that sorting through for highest omicron rating makes for the quickest killing, i.e. I recommend checking how much omicron is added for each turret and the placing just the highest rated until out of slots and/or crew

Scraping Lasers in brawling distance are AWESOME!! I use them when enemies get close. The problem with laser weapons is they have increasing energy cost. I use chain gun and cannons and it works fairly well

Something you should try and do is building stations and mines to see if you can make your own faction and start taking over sectors of space.

You can sort you inventory which will also sort the mod inv that's under p (forget its name) though so far all I have used is by type and damage (which is dps not just raw damage but it can't account for overheating). I feel you pain in the damage department even though my ship is currently over 800 with all chain weapons though my main problem is all but one of them is currently burst and overheating so if you find a powerful chain weapon with out that hold on to it. I actually got my really powerful non overheating chaingun around my starting area. From my own experiments with research I have determined two things. You need 5 items to guarantee a quality upgraded and if the items are made out of different materials the output item will be of the lowest kind.

The pirates with actual stations are not pirates pirates, their are faction like federetion of something or coalition of something - they are named pirates of something because of Random Number God quirks. I once started in a faction Pirates of something-something with admired rep. Actual pirates pirates have only hidden sectors with only shipyards, they show on your radar only if you can see the Yellow blimps

By the way Lathrix, you can destroy turrets. You either need to be VERY accurate, or, if you force them to collide with another object, the collision can also rip the turrets off.

Plasma cannons make short work of shields. Recommend you get at least two quad ones for that :P. Cannons are utterly crap against shields though.
