Alternate ending: Dreadnought Brenevier launched a barrage of heavy bolter fire before turning to shield a squad of Battle Sisters from the enemies' response. "Many thanks, venerable one." said the Canoness leading the Sororitas, her weathered face showing her years of service. But those years had not dulled her battlefield senses, as a Heretic soon learned with a bolt round to the head, as he tried to sneak toward the armored group with a krak grenade. "You should be evacuating with the rest," the Dreadnought boomed, "The line will not hold for long." "It will so long as we draw breath," the Canoness called back, directing her Sisters to another group of incoming Heretics. "Besides, I would not dishonor the sacrifice of your brother Astartes with cowardice. For those we cherish...." "We die in glory," Brenevier finished automatically. He paused once he noticed what had happened. "You have fought alongside Lamenters before." "I have. I never miss an opportunity to repay my... *_our_* debt to your chapter." _"That is more than what can be said for my cousins...."_ Brenevier grumbled, decades of bitter dreams breaking through his usual stoicism. "Some of us recognize the valor of your warriors," the Canoness agreed with a wry smile. "I will never forget my first experience with the Lamenters. It will be almost 70 years to the day." 70 years.... The Dreadnought mused. That was right around the time he was entombed. At the defense of... "You were at the battle of Corillia?" "Hive Holdenmire," she nodded. Another brief pause. "I do not recall any Sororitas on that front." He turned to face the Canoness. "Where in the city did you--" For the first time in that campaign, Brenevier was dumbstruck. Not even the impact of autogun fire would pull his attention. Mounted on the center of the Canoness's chestplate, surrounded by numerous prayer seals, was a smaller piece of parchment. Despite years of fading, one could still recognize the unmistakable outline of an Astartes's power armor, its crude proportions betraying the childish hand that drew it. Next to it was an equally crude drawing of a red heart, the heraldry of the Lamenters. "Canoness...." Brenevier began slowly. "I do not recall hearing your name." "Molada", she said, briefly looking up from her bolt pistol sights to meet his gaze. Despite the unchanging facade of the Dreadnought armor, she couldn't help but be drawn in to its piercing gaze. _"Molli..."_ "....Breni??" A tear welled up in her eyes, breaking the usually hardened veneer of her face. "Emperor's Grace, it really is you." A heaving breath. "You did stay with us....." A rocket crashed onto Brenevier's shoulder, the explosion finally breaking him from his stupor. Once again the Dreadnought unleashed the fury of his heavy bolter against the incoming Heretics. "I am afraid this happy reunion will not last long if the line breaks." Brenevier growled. "So be it," Canoness Molada said, wiping her soot-stained face with her pistol-hand before loading a new magazine. A vicious grin was now growing on her face. "We will have no choice but to break the enemy before that happens." Brenevier turned slightly to meet her eyes. Even through the Dreadnought armor, Molada could tell a similar grin was growing on his battle-scarred face. "So be it." Brenevier raised his ceramite arm in exuberant defiance. *"FOR THOSE WE CHERISH!!"* He roared before charging straight at the Heretic mob. *"WE DIE IN GLORY!!"* the Sororitas roared back, joining their brother Astartes in the charge. -------- Fun fact: "Molada" means "giver of life", while "Moli" means "rebellious" (or in this case, "defiant") :D

The Lamenter shows the Iron Warrior what it means to be Iron within and without. Unbreakable resolve that the Iron Warriors can only pay lip service to. He sees what he could never be no matter how often he chants their motto. He sees what he couldve been, what he abandoned, and he smashes the mirror. Yet, even in pieces, it reflects his failures.
@chubbyninja896 ай бұрын
You're wrong. The Lamenters aren't simply crude and brittle iron which can be broken. They're the finest tempered steel or even diamond, for those worthless wretches do not truly understand what it really means to be strong, for all they do try so damn hard to justify their treachery and project their own failures onto others because they were too weak to stay loyal. The Iron Warrior is nothing but a weak piece of scrap iron who's trying to project his pathetic weakness onto an astartes he knows, that he *knows* is a thousand times the man he will *ever* be, even if given 10,000 years to do so.

The fact Lamenters are able to cry for each other, and for normal mortals, explains the Lamenters perfectly. What type of Space Marine Chapter would you get, if the Emperors mistake upon making them, was he forgot to take away their emotions? Take away their humanity? What would happen if Space Marines where left with their humanity? They would suffer horrendous loses and be looked at as being cursed by other Space Marines. What else would you get? Stories of Space Marines sacrificing themselves to save children, stories of putting themselves in front of ordinance even to protect one little girl. Stories of Space Marines, despite horrific loses, never giving up. What is the point of defending humanity if one's humanity is lost in the defence? Space Marines fight because the Emperor bred them to fight. Lamenters? They fight for the Hope of a better tomorrow. Honor means nothing without sacrifice.

Warhammer stories go through a range of emotions; but this is the first one that made me cry. It’s easy for an Astartes chapter to talk about duty and bravery when they’re your Ultramarines, always with a beautiful sunset to ride off into. It’s another when you know you’re doomed from the start; and yet the Lamenters embody all the greatest traits of their Primarch, despite their decimated forces, genetic curse, and seemingly cosmic bad luck. This fleshes out that in the grimdark of it all, in a galaxy where near perfect demigods roam, perhaps it is in the most flawed that becomes the best of them, and that thereby in being flawed, the beauty of their forgotten humanity shines. I cried. Deep and ugly. They are the nobility in the hearts of humanity. Imperfect, and all-too-mortal, but bright and unwavering until the final moment. I love that they are all-too aware of the horrors of their(and our) universe, and of the depths of grief, but they continue on. They acknowledge it, but do not let it overwhelm them. Rather, they rise to meet reality and do all that they can... even if they might doubt themselves. I think the only thing that would make me love the lamenters even more would be if they didn't believe in a faith or an afterlife. If they went into battle knowing that death could just mean complete oblivion. But that's something personal to my beliefs and not exactly common in 40k anyways. I wish that I had the compassion and the strength of will of these paragons. Even if they are fictional, they inspire me to be better: to be physically and mentally strong, to love, and to sacrifice. "Do not lament my Chapter, brother. Becouse for those we cherish, we die in glory" The Captain ended the vox link to the other Astartes commanders. He turned and sighed. We knew our task, even though we would do it alone. The Captain looked over us sharply, we saw the pict feeds. The civillian corpses, it angered us. Other Chapters rarely understood us, bar others of the blood. Our faces where set, our purpose set upon our angelic features.My Brother-Sargeant clenched his power sword tighter in anger at what he saw as desecration of the Emperors loyal subjects. The company Chaplain then closed his sermon book loudly. at the alter, from where he had not moved since he came into the chapel. Everyone fell even more silent. But everyone had made their hearts course known by expression alone. The Chaplain, deathmasked could not find fault. " You make me proud my brethren " he calmly spoke. He continued... " You stand as sure as our gene sire, Sanguinius did. The great angel stood at eternity gate. We Lamenters forever stand at the same gate. In our own way, for those who we MUST defend, just. Like. Him.In spirit rather then flesh. I see this gift burn in you all. The gift our Primarch left us before every other. ..." I watched.. my brethren slowly moving into diciplined ranks which I joined. The last few brothers unlocking their helmets. Placing them before them on the ceramite floor of our strike cruiser. The Captain alone remains standing, the company champion kneels. The company banner in his left hand. Silence endures for a moment, broken when Chaplain Astiel moves over the raised platform in the chapel. " We shall go unto them. As the Angel did. To stand against the tide. We shall burn the traitors from this world to whom they wish to lay claim. We will deny them this! For we stand, in the name of the Emperor and Sanguinius! This is your purpose! And your path is singular! We came here the first. By your duty and on our Chapters honor! You Will be the last!" I felt fire within my breast. My hearts surged. As the Chaplains words rang true as thunder trough the chapel. Not a split second later we all rose. Voicing the reply as we had for decades. A full ninteyseven astartes voices booming as one. "May the Emperor protect!" A split second later the warning lights sounded and the horns bellowed across the ship. Mere moments later our squad was in our designated drop pod and the lurch and sudden whine of its engine send us towards the planets surface. I knew no fear. And accepted that for the people I would readily lay down my life. I never doubted this. Not once. Becouse for those we cherish. We die in glory.

Your video has finally answered a question that has vexed me for years. Which Space Marine Chapter is my favorite? For the longest time, I thought it was the Salamanders. The giant, onyx skinned sons of Vulcan, who gladly stay behind and defend humanity with Holy Fire. But the more I learned about these True Sons of Sanguinius, I realized that they are everything that the Emperor wanted his Space Marines to be. Those who would face insurmountable odds without fear or hesitation. Those who would face certain Death with Pride and Courage. Those who dive head first into truly unwinnable battles against the Galaxies' most fearsome horrors, if it meant just a few more of the Imperium's innocent citizens have a chance to survive. To be, not just the tip of the Humanities Spear, but a Shield against the Terrors. No matter the hardships and scorn unjustly thrown at them, they will never abandon their oaths to both The Emperor and Sanguinius. For Those We Cherish, We Die In Glory.
@MADSAHAD Жыл бұрын
If the legends and tales are true. The Legion of the Damned are Space Marines that have died a most brutal death at the hands of those who seek the utter destruction of the Imperium but more the breaking and wholesale slaughter of its people. Than the Lamenters number a great deal of that Legion's members. The Lamenters are amongst a small few of Astrates that will sacrifice themselves in battle for the people of the Imperium. Not many Chapters can say the same, only a select few. The people of the Imperium are grateful for them all. Lamenter, go rest from your wounds, for the time will come soon for you to go forth and protect the people once again, For Those We Cherish!

They're not entirely alone, as the Salamanders, Ultramarines, and even Space Wolves to an extent care about the people of the Imperium.
@WyaldTalk3 ай бұрын
@@chubbyninja89what extent is that? Anything short of marines malevolent? 😂 the only ones who stand with the lamenters in this regard is the salamanders.
@chubbyninja893 ай бұрын
@@WyaldTalk Well, the Space Wolves did in fact try to protect the civilians and common soldiers during and after the First War of Armageddon, and the Ultramarines aren't known to be quite so dismissive with the lives of the civilians, as they have a realm of Ultramar that they rule over. So I wouldn't say that it's purely Lamenters and Salamanders and everyone else are the marines malevolent on the asshole meter.

I remember the first time I read this fanfic, I couldn't stop crying near the end. Thank you for this video. The emotion in your voice really brought it all back to life again. The Lamenters truly are one of the best Chapters the Imperium has. They are a source of inspiration not only in the WH40k universe but also outside of it as well. They go through so much on a daily basis - getting fricked by the very universe, let alone most of the people who they serve along with. Yet they still hold themselves true to their duty - protecting the Emperor, the Imperium and the Civilians. It gives one inspiration to overcome their own problems and keep going strong. May the God-Emperor watch over these noble men and give them the strength to keep fighting on.

The traitors are but weak and pathetic cowards who try to constantly justify their treachery and project their failures onto others. They hate the Lamenters, Salamanders, and a few other chapters because they see everything they could've been in those astartes and want to destroy them only because they are a constant reminder of that fact.

@@AVoxintheVoid It's stories like this that make the Lamenters one of if not the greatest of Space Marine Chapters. Sure they may not be the strongest, best-equipped or the most popular Chapter for the Imperium to call upon due to their heritage with the 21st Founding. And many in the fanbase have turned them into as much of meme as the Ultramarines. But in spite of how far the Galaxy goes to mess with their existence, the Lamenters tenacity and how far they'll go to protect and saves those that cannot protect themselves - an act that would make most other Chapters roll their eyes at - is something to be respected and commended.

Exquisite, absolutely exquisite in every form of the word. The capturing of the essence of the defiance in the face of certain death, knowing the Lamentor is assured of his death. The voice of the little girl is the highlight of the piece, she did so, so well. The contrast of the loss of humanity of the cultists vs the guard. Simply exquisite. I hope you do a collab with the voice of das_man one day, his voice acting is of the highest degree. It’s a shame he deleted videos of his cannon 40k work due to it taking away money from black library. But even his fanfic stuff is great
