Got the J5 when they first came out. Awesome camera, so easy to pocket. Have 10mm, 18.5mm, 10-30mm, 30-110mm and 10-100mm VR lens. Love the system and if I had any spare cash the 32mm would be top of my list.

I bought this Nikon 1 J5 a year ago. Like you, I’m astonished at the quality of shots. I just ordered the telephoto zoom for it. Great video.

I know this video is 4 years old but I just bought the J5 and all of the lenses. Still waiting for the 30-110mm & 10mm f/2.8 pancake lens. Love the 18.5mm & 32mm Primes plus 6.7-13mm, 10-100mm, 70-300mm, also have the 10-30mm. IDK about the 11-27mm and I did get the Vivitar 500mm T Mount with converter to Nikon 1, plus the 2x converter. Loving it but I do want an EVF, thinking about the V3 or V2. Also getting a dummy battery and 5 batteries for the system. Loving it. Cheers!

Still have four V2 and lots of Nikkor 1 lenses in use in our household. More or less useless in low light situations but simply great handling. I love them for street and Tele photography with the amazing 70-300 VR.

Nikon should bring this back. They are not going to compete with Sony and Canon on the FF front so better try something nobody else has. A 1" with a wide angle lens that small compacts like the rx100 cameras cannot do is all it needs to be a brilliant travel kit

I've just picked up a J5 and I absolutely love it. I had a J2 and a couple of lenses and it was ok but the J5 with the 18.5mm f2.8 prime is so much fun to carry around and shoot with. It's such a pity the range was discontinued as the V3 and J5 Nikon were the 1 range really finding it's feet, and the J5 is a beautiful little thing. The Z mount cameras they have now and too big and too expensive by comparison.

Ive had the Nikon V1 from new, the camera is amazing, I've also got a D800 but I carry the V1 around everywhere, the one inch sensor is stunning for a 9 year old camera, the crazy thing is that these were sub £100 not so long ago but the prices are starting to creep up, use the V1 with the Nikon FT1 adapter and use your Nikon glass on the small body and the results are very very good indeed. The best CX Mount lens was for me the 18.5mm followed by the 10mm but with the adapter it takes the range to another level IMHO. Now you may ask why put the adapter on it which increases the size but use the 50mm 1.8 G or even the 18-55 G v2 and boom, funny since Nikon introduced the Z range people have caught onto the V1, fantastic camera, well done for reviewing this classic.

I picked up a J2 cheaply from Argos when I was holidaying in the UK and my Sony DSLR got a gutful of cider. It was a delightful camera to use as a holiday camera, though it came with a 10-30mm lens, equivalent to 28-80 roughly. When I got back to Australia, I used it as a throw in the bag camera and took photos when I went for a lunchtime walk. Lack of an EVF was the biggest problem. Then the mainboard died and I bought a V1. Clunky, yes; but very usable, and less clunky than the Sony when I wanted something better than a point and shoot and portable to boot. The 10-30 lens for the V1 has died, and I need to get it back to Sony because they were subject to recall, but I plan to use the V1 again in preference to the pocket cameras I have had to weed dirt out of on a number of occasions if I don't want to be too conspicuous. When I thought lighting might be a problem, I generally shot RAW+JPEG and found I could sort the RAW images a bit better, but, for most photography, JPEG was quite acceptable. If Nikon ever brought them back, I would be interested. They could safely make them a little lighter, and think a PASM dial (you can get there in the menus, but that's a nuisance) and a tilt or flip out screen would make a vast difference to a camera like the V1, and 14MP might be a bit better than 10. That's not a lot of change.

Just found a Nikon 1 j1 in a thrift store with a 10mm and 18.5mm lens for $50. You're right in saying this particular camera is a pain in the a$$ to set up or change settings on, everything is pretty well done through the menu system, but once that's done it's a fun and very nice working and well constructed little camera.

That's an absolute steal! The J5 is far more usable than the J1 as it has extra dials and buttons, but the images out of the J1 can be great. That 18.5mm lens is also really good, and weighs next to nothing. The 10mm is not bad either. I have recently picked them back up again and still getting use out of mine in 2023. A lot of life still left in them.

I picked up a J4 for $250 at Target six years ago when they were on closeout. I then bought a 30-110 and an 18.5 on ebay. Great camera for when you don't want to carry around a lot of gear. The 18.5 at a 1.7 crop is about 50mm so it's really good as a walkaround camera. Definitely shoot RAW and jpg.

Cameras, and photography is all I have been interested in besides girls. I have been an Olympus man since the early 70 s. I recently acquired a Nikon 1 J 4 with lenses 3 as a matter of fact. I enjoy the N 1 so much, I can't think of a time I have loved a camera this much. For anyone thinking of purchasing one just do it, they can be had for very little money these days, they are wonderful.

have a J4 and a V2, use mostly the V2 and a full set of lenses: 6.7-13mm, 10-30mm, 30-110mm, 10-100mm, 70-300mm and the 18.5/1.8 I like the small size and weight together with the fast AF. And the best is the 70-300mm lens for wildlife shots and all without a tripod. I have also a Sony Alpha 7 with the 24-105/4 zoom lens, but most of the time I take the nikon 1 V2

I thought everyone had forgotten about 1 series. I have a V3/10-30mm and the picture quality in good when there is enough light but when it gets darker then its another matter. I dont use it much after getting the Z6..

My wife just bought me a Nikon 1 j1. Waiting on it to arrive. I'm not that great at photography, but I love the fact I can hang it from my wrist and just take pictures. Is there anything you can tell me about the best lenses to use. And perhaps if it will be good for long exposures

i love this camera (1 J5), i even took it on a safari few times, I also did a street photography project for a couple of years, I still use it at work too to photograph project progress. its amazing for a little camera to be honest. Beautiful! my only downside is the 10-30 lens gets stuck sometimes, and the shutter curtain on the lens itself gets stuck. but again I live in Saudi Arabia and it gets very dusty over here. i removed the lens shutter and it worked fine. some shots are on my IG @ h.alfraidphoto

I actually want manual focus and a viewfinder. I recently got my eyes fixed and haven't been able to use a viewfinder well in over 20 years, and now I want to. I recently bought a V1 for cheap. TLDR: I want a viewfinder.

I had a J5 and the 10-30 PD but sold them. I have missed it and appreciate what it was now it's gone, so I've ordered another to supplement my Fuji. I have had to buy it, as I spotted the 70-300 Nikkor 1 lens and impulse bought that without having a camera for it?!?!? I have the lens which seems really well built and just a lovely thing. When my camera comes, I will have a super zoom with a much better sensor and lens than superzoom have, and possibly it will be smaller and lighter too! I know from previously that you can get really good photos out of a J5. It doesn't break the laws of physics but it is top notch Nikon gear with a 1" sensor. It will certainly satisfy my needs anyway. Please do follow up this video, I would love to see you review the 6.7-13 if you have one as this will be on my wish list for the future now. Thanks, Tim

Thanks for this review... CX Format, 1" sensor format, Nikon DL Series Compact Cameras Nikon 1 Mirrorless Camertas... and Coolpix Serie Bridge Cameras? I really hope Nikon will offer a 1" Coolpix Bridge Cameras like the DL24-500. A bridge with specs (or more / better) like the RX10M4, V-Lux5, FZ1000M2, FZ2500 / FZH1 / FZ2000, G3 X.. The first mirrorless line of cameras, Nikon went to CX format, instead of M4/3... Pretty sure Nikon M4/3 will survive like Panasonic and Olympus. I know Nikon cancelled the DL series, but the CX or 1" sensor format is a good way to shut down false debates between smartphones (Devices offering photography capabilities) vs Digital Compact Camera (Devices dedicated to photography). Of course, no smartphone can beat a P950 with so much optics range. The camera market is definitely shrinking for a lot of reasons, not because digital cameras are no longer good (they are good, taking photographs is like cheating now), there is no room for a lot of cameras, ... a CX Coolpix could be interesting.

Probably not, its an old camera now and although its still good for video there are are many better. I am not very familiar with macro photography or video so I cannot really say, but I think it is worth looking at the Sony ZV1, its compact and affordable and the video is excellent.

yes,,,if you put it on video mode, you can control exposure compensation, full manual. good HD quality, not a 4K though. i love this camera, I actually have two

Yes, on the J5 at least. Auto exposure and auto focus are quite reliable too.

Nikon FT-1, it's a bit pricey but you can adapt any F mount lens with normal functionality in most cases
