This made me cry so hard. I’m so proud of you both. But especially for how far Avril has come. When I was 10 or 11 clinging to Avril’s every word, I never could have imagined that I’d be sitting here on KZbin watching this type of behind the scenes. In my opinion she is at female artist GOAT status. Why? Always producing her own lyrics, beats, video, etc. She never went corporate or never sold out. Always kept her music consistent, which is edgy, emotional and raw.

Her label, the corporation made her dump her band for hired guns (common), the song and those after were overproduced and she was plastered all over everything as some edgy skater chick. I grew up in the same area as her, even come across her at concerts in high school. She wasn’t some edgy skater chick. She has talent, I do agree, but let’s be real here.

She said that when she got picked up by the label at 16, she was going to be another pop/country artist, but she decided to go in a more rock direction after getting into that type of music and pushed the label to let her do that. She didn't ditch any guys bc she didn't have a band at that time - she was signed solo. Also she stated multiple times that she doesn't consider herself a punk or whatever the media called her, and that she does make rock music but it's softer than other rock artists.
