Szymanowski, a hidden treasure. Great perfomance, too.

It is a stunning performance and interpretation, without any sentimentality (which can easily creep into the last mvt), and obviously the conductor has a profound insight in this extraordinary music which sounds both strange and familiar.

Endlich finde ich das richtige Programm. Die Stimmen aller Sänger und die Töne aller Instrumente sind unter der künstlerischen Leitung von diesem genialen Dirigenten perfekt kontrolliert und völlig artikuliert.

Bardzo piekne fakt, jednak Andrzeja Hiolskiego w partii barytonu trudno pobić....

This is, hopefully people realize, one of the best musical achievements of the entire Western musical tradition. Regarding Polish pronunciation, Mark Stone and the choir pass. The rest don't. And we must be as particular about Polish here as we are about German in Bach. It's equally difficult. And yet people do it in German. They absolutely must do it in Polish as well.

No es un compositor muy conocido en España, pero la verdad es que es una obra muy bella. Me quedan ganas de oír más música de este autor.

A beautiful performance. To a Pole this piece has an interesting layer: parts of it sound like the Polish folk music from the mountain folk (the "górale") in the Tatra mountains region of Poland. Szymanowski had a vacation house in Zakopane in that region, a village which attracted many well-known literary figures at the time. For example the part beginning at 17:49 sounds very much like the real thing :-) (pay attention to the choir which sings this part too quietly here)

Fascinating! I travel a lot and am acutely aware of how the spirit of a location is captured in music! I’ve listened to music composed for the Danube and that too has the spirit within. I spent time along the Danube and I heard it!

Braws dla orkiestry. Słychać wszystkie kolory, choral w finale jak grzechow odpuszczenie.

To anyone with a broad interest in music I can say both Thomas Newman (Hollywood composer of soundtracks such as American Beauty) and multi styled guitarist John McGlaughlin both borrowed from this.

I would like to hear a version with the chorus singing the solo parts. I understood none of the text. It was only after reading the comments that I learned it was Polish, not Latin. Even then It was all marbles in the mouth, and too much vibrato.
