These Rameau’s Motets have a fabulous harmony and wonderful music and were the work of an outstanding composer. The soloists and the other voices are superb and the orchestration flawless. This music enchants us and reminds us the good and less good times in life. Sensitivity, grace and elegance are amazing. Long live to the Rameau sublime music. Thanks for this magnificent recording.

Harm en Joke Hofman Ok ik heb het niet meegemaakt omdat ik in slaap was gevallen maar zondagavond was voor mij een hoogtepunt met die Echt Italiaanse zangers. Waarschijnlijk is ook heel bepalend waar je zit en wat je voorkeur is (dichtbij of ver af). Gelukkig is er voor iedere wens iets te kiezen uit het rijke aanbod. Dit klinkt meer naar Vox Luminis dan naar Rameau

De muziek van Rameau prachtig, maar het kostte me moeite om te horen in welke taal gezongen werd. Ik weet niet waarom het latijns zó onherkenbaar was, normaal heeft Vox Luminis een perfecte dictie in het latijns. Maar ondanks dát heb ik genoten van het concert, dank aan de Avro, vandaag op 22 nov 20, Dag van Sta.Cecilia, patrones van de musici 👏👏

Deze uitspraak van het Latijn is gebaseerd op geschiedkundig onderzoek en komt hoogstwaarschijnlijk overeen met de uitspraak die in 18e-eeuws Frankrijk werd gehanteerd. Wanneer u dit 'Frans-Latijn' hoort, weet u dus dat het gaat om een zogenaamde historically informed performance (HIP).

Hartelijk dank....... It is frustrating that I cannot find the names of the soloists anywhere. Even at the Vox Luminis website there is only the mention of Messr. Meunier. One should see the names of all the musicians and the singers, they all deserve acknowledgement. Also I am curious to know if the Countertenor is Belgian or??

Vox Luminis' regular low alto, Jan Kuhlmann, is. He's the clean-shaven shortish guy with the glasses. Not sure what the name of the other alto (the one who took the top part of Conturbatae sunt gentes) with the beard is - they often use a tall and quite handsome Dutchman, Daniel Elgersma, but this is a different chap. If you mean the bald tall haute-contre, no idea - possibly Jeffrey Thompson?

The nice thing about listening to groups with "Early Music" in their name is that you don't get bombarded by trash music by people like Walter Piston and that whole genre of suchlike garbage creators.

Nel nostro coro quando cantiamo in altre lingue ci fanno un minimo di formazione sulla pronuncia, presumo che anche ai tempi, per i "grandi mottetti" ci sarà stato un prete ad impartire lezioni di "pronuntiatio ecclesiastica".

I really enjoy listening to this. Still, when he was in sixties, Rameau confessed that, if he could start his life over, he would go to Naples and compose in the manner of Pergolesi. I like listening to this. But compared to Pergolesi, I am not sure that it qualifies as music. The American scholar president Thomas Jefferson, who spent time in France before becoming US president, also commented on the "barbaric" state of music in France when he was there. He must have taken aim at composers like Rameau. And he considered Italian music the principal solace of his soul. As I keep listening to this, it is quite pleasing to listen to as noise. But is it music? I am not sure. It definitely is notes. But is it really music? I wish Rameau could have fulfilled his deepest wish and be able to go to Naples and compose real music and not just pleasant noise. Leo Depuydt

OK. And what is music for you ? while discussing of your tastes (and Jefferson tastes), please advice in what this is not music. By far, Rameau was more complex and inventive composer than Pergolesi. While Rameau always pushed forward the techniques, the expressiveness and emotions based on French and Italian earlier music, Pergolesi never renewed the napolitan style. Also because He didn't live old... More generally, Lully set music as a political instrument with a lot of power and emphasis, Charpentier classified keys according to emotions and Mondonville, Rameau Gluck, Gossec laid the foundations of classical music than inspired so much Mozart and Haydn. Music would never be the same without French barbaric notes. emotions and harmony are the keys of music !

Curieux que vous ne compreniez pas combien Rameau est un immense musicien ! il faut une certaine qualité d'âme pour le comprendre sans doute....peut être faut il être français..... cette musique demande des qualités d'écoute et de compréhension que tout le monde n'a pas visiblement...aucune importance ! c'est l'un de nos plus grands musiciens ...
