Yeah! splendid, wonderful, tonality and dynamism sensibility is so beautiful and graceful. Concert Mistress Jansen well done at best, Oh! much more beautiful lady, especially her bowing articulation is so clear. Piano, Viola, Cello part is veryvery nice melody and rhythm touch (91yrs. Japanese) sorry strange English. Anyway this music is beautiful music.

Jansen is such a glittering virtuoso that she tends to steal the stage. But make no mistake: All these players are among the best anywhere. In particular I always seem to gravitate to chamber performances with Brovtsyn and I am grateful to be introduced to Amihai Grosz, whose tone and vibrato made a huge difference in this piece which has a lot of lovely highlights in the viola.

kinda good, isn't he? I've heard him called The Viola King, and that seems ok to me. Incidentally, in English it's usual to say "violist." Personally, I prefer not to called a "piano player;" that sounds like I work late nights in bars. Of course you don't come across many violists in bars, at least not with their instruments. But a lot of folks would be delighted to treat Amihai to a libation whenever he comes to Boston. And that invitation stands for his colleagues, too.

I just swung by to revisit the first few bars of the Scherzo, but what can I say? It's Dvořák!! I couldn't pass up a chance to enjoy the whole thing. Wonderful playing and balance amongst all players. Interesting to watch the visual stoicism of the cellist in contrast to the sheer drama and playfulness of the first violinist's expressions underscoring the moods of each passage. Each player led masterfully as Dvořák gave them their moments. Great stuff. I'LL BE WAITING for the next one!! 😉

The Umělecká beseda (artistic club) organized a ceremonial meeting in honor of Tchaikovsky, in 1888 in Prague, at which Dvořák's Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 81 was performed. Tchaikovsky praised it in his diary. On January 7, 1888, Tchaikovsky and Dvořák visited the Prague premiere of Verdi's Othello together at the National Theater. During the farewell at the station, the two composers presented each other with printed scores of their compositions: Tchaikovsky received Dvořák's 4th Symphony in D minor, and Dvořák received Tchaikovsky's Suite No. 3 in G major, Op. 55.

@@edifyguy Thank you. My English is above average for an Indian, but not exceptional. You'd find thousands of people like me teaching at US universities, including several Nobel laureates in economics, medicine, etc., and most of them acquired their English here. It's also the benefit of a pseudo British education as a lingering legacy of the caste system - our own equivalent of white privilege. Not in terms of wealth - I am quite working class, yet societal privilege. We have our own garbage show - just that our politicians are more corrupt and less accountable. Bravo.
