I liked the fact that Cecil's trap didn't work perfectly. It was John's first try and things didn't go as planned, but it sets up all the future traps & explains why he's now so detail oriented. None of his traps failed after that one...he improved and adjusted.

If Jeff and Riggs swapped tests, everyone would have lived. Riggs would have saved all of Jeff's people. And Jeff would fail to save any of Riggs' people and thus save everyone.
@nilesstark6 ай бұрын
Fun Fact: They did film an alternate ending where Rigg approaches the Final Test. But to show that Rigg had learned from this game, he doesn't go through the door. He basically let's them try to save themselves. BUT Art fails to release them when timer goes out and Rigg has to watch Eric and Art die. Also in this ending, Hoffman still gets up and walks out the door to lean in and whisper something to Rigg that causes Rigg to jaw drop in shock. Rigg then collects himself, gets up to give chase after Hoffman. But he runs into Agent Strahm instead both of them have their guns drawn at each other and fire at each other. The film would then cut to black leaving their fates open ended.
@Adrianne5195 ай бұрын
I honestly would have loved that ending way more! Rigg should have lived and he could have continued the series, it would have been great to see him and Strahm work together! They needed a good protagonist and every time they got one they killed them off, like Strahm was such a good foil for Hoffman.

I hate what Saw V did to him. Don't get me wrong, I love a good female villain. But Amanda Young wouldn't have had the physical strength to do some of the things that were required in the Saw franchise. So it made sense that a guy like Hoffman was a part of Jigsaw's "crew". Jigsaw (specifically John Cramer) would have needed someone with more physical strength than Amanda Young to carry out his plans. Plus Hoffman brings the police expertise. He knows a thing or two about forensic science and how to get away with crimes.

While the movie takes liberties with emotions and realism, Jeff’s character is to show the utter self destruction some people feel by a tragic loss. His whole life was torn apart by the death of his son, compounded then by the driver’s light sentence. The break up of his marriage. Torn by wanting vengeance he could see nothing else. Forced by John to face destruction or forgiveness.

Sorry for such a late reply. So Jeff is basically the same as John, isn't he? They both lost their sons because of another person. Both of them hated their son's killer and wanted them to pay. So I guess John thought he could fix Jeff, because he basically went through the same thing.

Rigg’s tests is quite surprisingly more simple and straightforward than most would have you believe. The whole point of Rigg’s tests is not only to let go but also let people save themselves by themselves. All he had to do was literally NOTHING. While Rigg is not a totally bad or evil individual, he is no different than Eric or Jeff. He’s just as impulsive as Eric and he’s just as reckless as Jeff. You’d think that he’d learn from his mistakes after being told numerous times not to go into areas that he’s not supposed to go to but no. He doesn’t listen and he got his best friend killed. Rigg is by far one of the dumbest characters of the series. You wanna root for him to win but he doesn’t make shit easy. He’s a very frustrating character.

@@Adrianne519 as his wife pointed out, he can’t always save everyone. If he would had just left with her, he would not had been targeted and he’d be still alive. The original script for Saw IV is available online and was much better. It would open with Jeff continuing his game, and having to forgive Lynn's lover to save his daughter. He fails again and they both die, but Corbett was never actually in danger and lives. The main plot follows detective Matthews, he's dropped off in a box in the police station after being kept prisoner for 6 months. He's gone insane and is hallucinating pig heads stalking him. A new game begins and he's made aware that his wife is trapped in the ice block trap. He has to go building to building across the city, like Rigg did, saving people within a short time limit to get to his wife. Strahm and the police believe that he is the new Jigsaw and are one step behind him. Even shooting at him at one point, but he doesn't have time to stop and explain. The third person he saves is detective Hoffman, who is explained to have been his partner and fellow dirty cop in the past, and Hoffman acompanies Matthews in the finale. There's two red herring Jigsaws. One being Art Blank hosting the ice trap like in the final version, the other being Jeff from the drill chair trap in Saw 1, who's stalking Strahm. Both are being forced to take part there's a sub plot about 12 or however many missing people beloved to either be Jigsaw victims and / or jigsaw helpers, this was only mentioned once in the final version and never fully explained. Hoffman and Matthews get to the building with his wife, where all the previous traps are laid out like a museum. Matthews has to pull out his own teeth (reused in Saw 7) to get the combination for the door to save his wife. I can't remember exactly how it was meant to end, but Hoffman reveals himself to be the new Jigsaw to Matthews, and Jeff from Saw 1 blows up Strahms and Parez's car, killing Parez. The films trap locations were also filled with booby traps like Saw 1 and Saw 2 had. The reason why it was changed was because Matthews' actor was angry that they'd cut his death scene from part 3, and written him as the protagonist of this film, all without his knowledge or consent. He refused to be a part of any of it. So the script was rewritten into one very similar to what we have now, but with Rigg saving his wife from the ice trap. The films director met with Matthews personally, and managed to convince him to return to Saw 4 as long as he wasn't the main character and as long as he got killed of for good. The script originally had Rigg, Art, and Matthews winning their game, but they had to change it to everyone dying for Matthews to return. That's how we got the Saw IV that we did. Also the idea for Hoffman being an apprentice was thought of mid way through production of Saw 3. They changed his and Riggs lines last minute to make him seem suspicious incase saw 4 was ever made.

Still to this day it angers me that they killed off Rigg, he's one of my favorites in the entire trilogy and he could have continued to be a great protagonist for Hoffman. And I always thought he having to be tested was bullshit! Really, because he wants to save everyone, yeah how dare he! And he's telling him to go home when he literally sees his colleague and friend being strung up and in danger, he's a cop he's going to do his job! That's actually one of my biggest problems with the franchise is not having a consistent protagonist, that you could root for. Every time they did get one they would kill them off in the next movie.
