I've got the AW ...had it 3 years and love it.Had to do bit of work on it but overall a great sounding guitar.

Forgot to include the most important difference between these two; the PF15CE is all laminate wood and the AW54 has a solid top with laminate back and sides. World of difference in how "open" the guitar sounds. Also, pretty sure the neck on the AW54 is also mahogany and the bridge and fretboard are rosewood. I have an AW54ce that I love - same guitar as the AW54 with a cutaway, tuner, and Fishman pickup. Great review of these two guitars though!

Got the aw54ce opn a few days ago and I'm pretty amazed by the amount of guitar you get for the money. I paid 250 for it and it also came with an extra saddle for lower action. Amazing value for money

Wow, definitely noticed a more pronounced mid and low range on the AW vs. the PF. That solid top definitely makes a difference. I have an old PF6 from about 2001 that I had in my closet in its hard case for almost 20 years. Took it out early this year (started playing again), cleaned it up, restrung it, and still looks and sounds great. After this though, if I keep playing, I might take a look at something with a solid top, and possibly with built-in pickups as well (briefly looked at the AAD series). I considered Taylor, but for the money, I think that Ibanez still offers a really good value for what you get, even if the stalwarts like Taylor and Martin will always be the technically superior guitars.

I'm looking at getting the PF15 ECE. What's the action like to play, do you have to put much pressure on the strings? I had a really old acoustic that you needed a tonne of pressure to get a good sound.

I prefer the AW54. It has a rounder, fuller tone where the bass strings project a bit more. Both guitars are pretty good for budget guitars, though. Why don't you compare the AW54 to a $200 Orangewood guitar? Orangewood guitars are budget guitars that are getting a lot of attention around the internet. Thanks for the comparison.

@priyanshuchoudhary83194 жыл бұрын
Check Fender CD60SCE or some cort guitars at that range. Cutaway and non cutaway don't make much difference though. You can look out for yamaha fg800
@hoffguitars4794 жыл бұрын
It is still a good choice. You can install a piezo pickup for $30 or less so if money is the deciding factor, buy a model without the cutaway and buy a pickup for it. Most dreadnoughts with a cutaway and pickup run about $300 or more but there are lots of smaller options that do have both, they just won’t sound as good(in my opinion).
@cagecurrent4 жыл бұрын
No comparison, the AW54-OPN is way better. And I really like the look of the vintage OPN models, I'm thinking about getting a grand concert sized one like the AVC9-OPN or AC340/AC340CE-OPN.

Cutaway vs no cutaway right? I don’t have a preference as far as tone it makes more difference what the finish and tone woods are. I haven’t played one of the new AW70ece but they look great! If you can afford one ($480 on reverb) that what I would choose.

For the look I like more the Ibanez because the Yamaha's body is wider. The sound I can't compare from videos but what I hear is the Yamaha is fuller and louder and the Ibanez has a better tone. In the forums everyone says to not buy and stay away from Ibanez, tho.

How does the position of the front strap pin on the Ibanez affect playability -- does it cause the guitar to try and roll in your arms as you play?
@hoffguitars4795 жыл бұрын
i really liked the one on the aw54 because it’s easy to strap on and take off the sling. the pf15 has the pin where the neck and the body meet. its harder to get the sling off and on but it does turn the front of the sling out to be seen better.

@hoffguitars4795 жыл бұрын
i need to adjust the saddle on the aw54 but it still plays great. on the pf15 i kind of think somebody ruined the truss rod and possibly warped the neck slightly before i got it. i didn’t know that when i bought it so it doesn’t play nearly as good as the aw54 for those reasons.

yes you should get it set up. I hadn’t done anything to mine until recently. It played fine just not great. And I think I could with a proper set up. Also, upgrade the strings to elixir brand. $20 but more than worth it for how good they sound and how much better they play!
@someoneonyoutube19935 жыл бұрын
One more question as you are so kind to answer. I'm on my 1st year of self study through an online program that a purchased. Until now I'm not even good at strumming. Some are talented and improve quickly not me. Would it be easier if I should get the grand concert ac240 or ac340 rather than the aw54 ? They say ac240 is for fingerpicking the aw54 for strumming. I need an allrounder at first to learn everything as my goal is to join our church band one day.
@hoffguitars4795 жыл бұрын
Give me a couple days to look into those models. I’m all about helping a guy get into church music so I’ll do a little bit a study and see what I come up with I don’t know a lot about those two yet. I love my AW 54 for the fingerpicking. With the elixir strings it sounds great. I did a review on this guitar about a month and a half ago. If you go back and watch that it shows a little bit more about the strumming and fingerpicking. It’s more detailed than the comparison I did between it and the PF 15.
