The Augusta is the go-to platform for most air ambulance and search and rescue operations all around Australia. It combines lightness of controls, autopilot, auto hover and resistance to strong winds that have proven its capabilities. It has a long range and can carry large payloads for multiple rescues. In its 15 years of use, not one has been lost in our airspace.

If any airframe is worthy to replace the Bell-222 as Airwolf in a reboot, it's this beauty! A rosy sale speech ! But not everything is rosy !! the de-ice never worked from the start of the operation and after many modification and battle with Agusta, is now disable. The 6800kg is a gross weight extension required by the offshore guys, we have it, but the Cat A performance are based on weight and temperature, so above 20 Celsius, at 6800kg, Cat A is gone. The certification was done at 6400kg. Vibration level below 20 kts is crazy when an approach to helipad. So, yeah, there is lot of good things with the 139, but is far from perfect.

As usual, another great video by Sky. Well researched and beautifully presented! In my country (Canada), the government took an incredible (and indecent) amount of time to replace our completely outdated SAR helicopters based on the Sea King. Initially, the EH-101 was selected by one government and then cancelled by the following government. All this ridiculous political bickering lasted a good 10 or 15 years. In the mean time, a number of Sea Kings were involved in fatal crashes across the country. The politicians who played these stupid little games should be held responsible for the death of all the military personnel that lost their lives while being forced to fly highly unsafe helicopters. In the end, in July 2004, Canada purchased a fleet of helicopters from Sikorsky based on the H-92 Superhawk civil helicopter. All helicopters were to be delivered by 2009. It took nearly 10 years to get the helicopters delivered to the Canadian military as they were plagued with problems, including the flight control system, and did not meet the specifications of the Canadian Armed Forces (renamed the CH-148 Cyclone). As some of you may have heard, on April 29th 2020, a CH-148 Cyclone crashed while on a NATO exercice off the coast of Greece and everyone on board died as a result. All flights of the remaining CH-148 were cancelled and the aircraft was grounded for a substantial amount of time. Clearly, Canada should have stuck with the EH-101 as initially planned. Lives would have been saved and Canada would have had a top of the line fleet of EH-101's. A big thanks to all the incompetent politicians who made all this possible!
@jameson12394 жыл бұрын
We have the EH-101 in service as the CH-149 cormorant it’s used by the Canadian airforce for SAR we also need to replace our CH-146’s as they can’t lift what there supposed to and were actually taken out of Afghanistan as there hot high performance is terrible

@@jameson1239 Thank you for your reply! I didn't realize we had the EH-101/CH-149 in service, I'm having a hard time following the Canadian Forces naming convention for their aircraft. @@crazycarl00 former AW139 (actually at the time of purchase a AB139) operator of an early SN. Pilots refused to fly the aircraft due to continuing safety of flight issues and had motor deck (where the mounts mount to) completely removed and rebuilt as well as additional strengthening to the tail boom ... so yeah, I have some experience with the model.
