Chuck and Mason, I can only hope one of you sees this, but I just have to thank you both. I love hylics so much, and I love everything about it, the beautifully unique visuals, the world, this album has REALLY given me an appreciation for the story, as I'd had some trouble piecing things together before, but above all one of my favorite parts about this series has been the music, god I LOVE the music. Ever since I found out about hylics back in october of 2021, I've been jamming out to these fantastic tunes, and having 7 brand spankin new BANGERS to listen to on repeat is one of the greatest gifts I could possibly receive, and another thing, I was not expecting to ever hear vocals in hylics music, but oh my god it works, it really really works. Vinny did a really good job, and from what I can gather, what wasn't done by Diane was sung by Chuck himself, which, whoever the main vocalist here is, you KILLED IT, the vocals are seriously so so good. They really open up a new avenue to use the music as a more intricate storytelling device, because without lyrics you can only really communicate abstract themes with music, while that's still great and something you guys are great at, having explicit lyrics to pick apart for story and interpret is really nice. I'm sorry for how long and rambly this is, I just love this series and everything about it so goddamn much, and you best believe that I'm going to buy the new hylics game the INSTANT it drops, and you best believe that im going to spend ages jamming out to that thing's OST as well. I see you! I appreciate this comment so much. Indeed, almost all of the vocals are me, except for Vinny and when my wife sings some embellishing pieces (some harmonies, the somsnosa motif, and the upper melody on “spell of absurdity”). It really was a journey to make this thing. I’m glad I did it. I’m glad Mason let me explore here. I’m glad he helped me with story telling/development in the way that he did. We are excited for what comes next!

I imagine this song to be representative of the protagonist of Hylics 3 (aka Odozeir's nasty little frankenstein daughter that has been seen in a few dev vids.) There's no lyrics because she's only just begun - literally. Doesn't know how to speak probably. As this is the last song of the album, I think it's a fair place to drop my theory on the whole album and what it means for the future of the Hylics setting. The Champion of Ennui is obviously about Wayne dipping from this reality after fighting for so long. Even as early as this, there's foreshadowing of what consequences his action may bring. Besides the whole group falling apart, the departure of his consciousness was shared with his other incarnations at the Wayne House. This will be important later. In "The Promethean's Lament," Odozeir, in his severely wounded state, weeps for the destruction of the Hylemxylem and Gibby's reincarnation. However, in these lamentations, he realizes how much he enjoyed reconstructing Gibby and the joy of creation in general. Instead of languishing as a puddle of pink slime, he decides to set about creating a new heir for the empire of the Moon, which is likely the aforementioned protagonist of Hylics 3. The Way Back Home is a bit of a tricky one, since it's sort of paradoxical in the timeline. Dracula is singing this one for some reason despite being dead since the first game, though I guess it wouldn't be surprising for him to be resurrected given how much Wayne does it. Anyways, it's about Somsnosa. I think it's about her being initially afraid to pursue her past, only to become emboldened after her adventures with Wayne and deciding to seek what's been calling for her all this time. There's the implication of there being more of Somsnosa's kind, which makes sense given that there's a gif of a very soms-lookin' enemy for Hylics 3. Seasons is REALLY DAMN INTERESTING. The parallels between it and The Promethean's Lament give the impression that Dedusmuln might end up in an uneasy alliance with Odozeir in order to find help in finding out what happened to Wayne, which would be a HUGE revelation on Dedusmuln's character. Very very interesting indeed. i have no clue what to say about Spell of Absurdity since the character singing it is unknown & its place in the timeline may be set way before everything else. i can imagine it being pretty important though. Lastly, As the World Begins to Wane brings us up to speed on what the hey is going on in the setting recently. Long story short - PONGORMA IS DEAD. STRAIGHT UP. With Wayne's conciousness leaving, the other Waynes at the Waynehouse have lost their inhibitions and have devolved - then re-evolved - into new forms that threaten to destroy all that is known in a sort of ecological "Waynebrian explosion." Pongorma is very, VERY upset about this and has become resentful of Wayne and his absence. In anger he has declared war upon Waynekind, but his old age impedes his abilities, and when set against such an immense enemy he is doomed. Many versus one, he puts up a good fight but is inevitably overwhelmed. He dies. Alone. Muttering one last question to himself: "When will the cycle end?" And that brings us to Awakening. Christ almighty, this makes me hyped as all hell for the future.

Wow, interesting interpretation of Pongorma's song! Not gonna lie, I honestly thought he was reminiscing about Wayne as a leader and all the fond memories about the rest of the group. Edit: ok, just re-read it, and I definitely see what you mean when Pongorma said he would be left dealing with "what remained of [Wayne]", as in, the other Waynes, which explains the Wayne-themed enemies. Also the "many versus one" thing, "in endless strife", yada yada. Though I don't think he's dead, I didn't really see anything that implied that.

oh, this one makes me feel some sort of emotions. the gradual, increasing rings of tinkling bells(?) builds tension that something is about to happen. the melody almost feels unnatural yet hopeful, maybe even excited. the entire song feels like something good will happen. something...magical. whimsical, too.

I believe this album takes place in between Hylics 1 and Hylics 2, beginning shortly after Gibby is defeated in the first game. Spoilers for both Hylics games below, so read at your own discretion. "Champion of Ennui/Into the Pastel Sky" is about Wayne's feelings on the matter, not liking the outlook of his life- Perhaps knowing that Gibby has a chance of returning in the future (I think the Hylics 1 wayne is the Old Wayne in Hylics 2). "The Promethean's Lament" is obviously about Odozeir talking about Gibby's death, but his conviction in his ruler still not waning. He talks about wanting to remake him again so he can rule the land, which is basically the plot of the second game. "The Way Back Home" is Dracula singing about Somsnosa. It talks about her not wanting to heed the call to defeat Gibby the first time, but with the threat of him being resurrected, she willingly goes along when called upon. It also talks about her wanting to go home and find her past, which she probably spent the majority of her time attempting to do between Hylics 1 and 2. "Seasons" is about Dedusmuln, continuing to explore the world that he finds so much beauty in, even if he misses his friends- Especially Wayne. Not too much to say, but it's one of my favorite songs in the album. "Spell of Absurdity" is about Dracula. By the end of the first game, he is dead, iirc. He talks about our heroes, what they've done, and what they are doing currently, calling out to them to continue forward. He possibly knows Gibby could return again. "As The World Began To Wane" is about Pongorma. This song, aside from Wayne's, is the saddest to me. Pongorma, after the events of the first game, cannot move on easily. He misses his friends, and he misses Wayne most of all- Seeing a true leader in him. He talks about Dedusmuln and Somsnosa focusing on their own things, "moving on", while he stayed the same all this time, which he finds frustration in. His song comes off as very lonely. "Awakening" is about Gibby. There are no lyrics, because Gibby is dead, but he won't be dead forever. He's being resurrected- rebuilt into a new form, a stronger form. Gibbulous, king of the moon, is awakening. This album is so, so wonderful. It's amazing- One of my favorite albums ever. There is so much genuine beauty in it and it makes me so excited as a Hylics fan. Everyone who worked on this- Thank you, you did awesome, and I can't wait to see what more everyone does in the future.

That's an awesome interpretation. Just though you might want to know that Chuck said in the comments to "Spell of Absurdity" that it was about an "unannounced" character in H1, though. Someone brought up the idea that it was a previous generation of freedom fighter before Wayne, to which Chuck avoided confirming or denying but saying there'll be more discussion during an upcoming livestream.

my wacky theory here: Hylics 3 is gonna show us a different side of the war. That maybe the important thing wasn't that Wayne and co. _won_ but that Gibby _lost_ , yknow? That maybe the state of the cycle is that neither the waning or gibbous sides should have utter control upon the land.

It’s odd to see how Wayne old and Current don’t care for world domination or to mold it into their view. In absent moon we see Wayne just abandons all in search of his own self gratification and well it’s understandable. You sacrifice your countless cycles for a prophecy that you never asked to be in and once over you may as well live to live. I do think the majority of enemies in areas of the map will constitute of mutated Wayne copies, no longer with the prime Wayne being in control. They were afterall militarized Wayne copies in case of Ginny’s return so theses muties would become feral

Had a double take when I saw this little song collection appear out of nowhere on my recommended a few days ago, since I don't really use other social media to keep up with Hylics. I have to say it was definitely a pleasant surprise though. Some great music and a bit of a deeper dive into the story and characters than I ever noticed in the games? I couldn't be more hyped to see whatever comes out of Hylics next; these songs seem to be setting up a third game scarily well... Either way, bravo on this!
