both ways gives the same result, you are right that u shouldn't change modifiers on both frame section and the column itself. but changing it on section property alone isn't wrong at all. personally i prefer doing it on frame section. much simpler

I read somewhere that the property modifier of 0.7 for I22 and I33 in column should be used just to check deflection but not for determining reinforcement. For determining reinforcement. I22 and I33 should be 1. Is it true?

U doing Good job!!!, Few queries as below 1. IS code doesn't specify weather we should use SM/PM with Service or Ultimate Load condition, whats's your take?? 2.Also further, should we use Property modifiers with P-Delta or without P-Delta?? 3. What should be SM/PM for slabs for IS code design??

If I apply stiffness modifiers to beams and columns, KL/Depth ratio exceeds more than 12 and columns are designed as slender columns, show higher percentage of reinforcement and if I don't apply stiffness modifiers, Etabs designs those columns as short columns, pl. explain.

It's an amaizing video and suggession sir. thank you for your dedication. I would like to solve two confusions of mine. 1. In case of beam and column, should we change torsional constant also as well as Moment of Inertia? because in your previous video on this topic, you gave a chart of ACI-318 where torsional contant is also modified? 2. In your previous video on this topic, the ACI-318 suggested for flat plate and flat slab to change the modifiers for design to 0.25... My question is, should we also apply 0.25 for one way or two way slab design. If not, what will be the value? Kindly please reply sir. Thank you so much.

1. As per ACI Code we need to modify TC also. But IS code doesn't recommend it. 2. In this case Slab means slab whether it's supported on beam or not. Flat Slab indicates plate here, so to consider slabs as cracked section same value will be used for all slabs.

For some reason my cantilever beams of balcony always fails in (torsion+shear) no matter how big section I assign. What might be the reason? I also asssign the torsion constant for beams to 0. Even then it did not work. Have any body come accross this problem? I would be so grateful if somebody could tell me whight might be the reason? My balcony is just 4 feet outwards. i assigned 9in x 14 inch beam but it fails. load is just 5 inch slab and 3KN live load and paraphet wall is made out of glass which might me considered as 0.5 KN/m. can any body tell me what size of beam would a 4ft balcony need.

Serviceability criteria for the deflection, foundation not for design. So this modifiers should be used for design or deflection check?

Yes, serviceability check not for design, that's why after finishing design we need to change Stiffness Modifiers. I have just shown the result difference by design for SM- 0.7x0.9=0.63 & SM-1x0.9=0.9. It is obvious that if design result is different then deflection will also be different. Main focus is to discuss the mistake, not to check design or serviceability here.
