AWD Tire Rotation - X Pattern - Silent Video

What is the benefit of rating tire in X pattern? I always rotate tire front to rear. rear to front.

On an AWD where the load is a bit more evenly distributed on all four wheels (than a two-wheel drive does), this give them the equal chances to be in the front/rear and left/right. I do it differently on my mini van, which is a front-wheel drive and a forward-cross pattern works better there.

What mileage do you recommend rotating tires?

About every oil change, 5000 miles or so. You can probably stretch it to 7,500 but keep it within 10,000.

Hi Professor, Thanks for the clear instructions. If you have directional tires, am right in assuming the cross rotation pattern would not be appropriate?

No problem! You are right. Directional tires will stay on one side only and you rotate front to back and back to front on the same side. I did this type of rotation on CrossClimate tires as part of a "100k service" in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJS1hYuebt18aaM
