Speaking of light trails, I just had a project involving a vehicle driving at night. I created a neat light trail effect on the taillight as it drove along. I used a motion tracked particle emitter to pull it off, though as of now it only works for still camera shots, not if the camera and vehicle are moving together or something similar like a drive by follow pan. Anyways, not sure if it's your style but it'd be interesting to see how you'd pull the effect off, either in a static camera scene like mine (maybe you have a better way to do it) or a moving camera scene which I have yet to figure out.

this is cool... would love to see this done in resolve fusion 💪

Thanks. I had a quick look at doing it in Fusion and it works - but it made me realise yet again how awesome Motion's particle system in terms of playback performance. It makes doing a project like this a total delight - Fusion not so much. But I will put in on my list of Fusion tutorials to do.

You know you are creating addicts don't you?! LOL!. Found myself jonesing for one of your tutorials.... and voila! That is really nice. Well done Simon! and thank you. nice to see your subs going up too.

Thanks. But here's the crazy thing about the subscribers numbers: they are actually 25% down over the last 90 days* during which I have published way more tutorials than ever in the same time period. (*Or rather the rate of increase is 25% down.) KZbin is just brutal.

@@SimonUbsdell Wow it sounds so unfair. You are the Expert on Apple Motion. I dont see anywhere more advanced tutorials.

@@SimonUbsdell geesh, sounds brutal in-deed. Well, it seems, from reading all of our comments, that what you are growing as a channel is not only informative, but immensely practical and inspiring to boot.

@@SimonUbsdell Simon, Hi! Great tutorial as always. Not an expert on YT, but the amount of subs is not as important as the watch time, likes, returning viewers..A quality subscriber is what counts! Also, very interesting is, that your channel has less views on Fusion tuts than Motion. Not sure why is that! Maybe they are too advanced!? (BTW, Keep them that way, more expression ones pls! I love them better than any other channel). Thank you!

Dear Simon, As always, your tutorial was excellent. You truly are a master in this field. I have a couple of points/questions: When I change a GROUP from 2D fixed resolution to 3D, the animation goes outside the frame, unlike in your tutorial. Additionally, using the flatten option doesn't keep it within the frame in my Apple Motion. How can I ensure that the animation stays within the boundaries of the frame resolution in a 3D group? What does the "Correct for Alpha" option do in the threshold? Thank you!
@trippy_blob2 күн бұрын
I am guessing, you can go the the GROUP Properties and and move the entire animation box (the particles in 3D space is defined / contained in a box) in Z axis. Hope, that ll solve some problem. Later you might need to scale up the emitter.

I wonder if getting the camera inside the ribbon would get a Doctor Who style time tunnel vibe? I think you've done that previously though. I shall have to look back.
@SimonUbsdell4 күн бұрын
Yes, adding a camera to this is really fun because it really puts you inside the 'environment'. I was experimenting with sweeping around on Y and rolling on Z but if one approached the ribbon animation differently one could create a continuous fly-through - the ribbons would need to fly along with the camera's motion as well as doing their oscillate thing.

Simon, is there any particular reason you suggest setting up the project in 30fps, when most of the world is on 25fps and indeed your voice sounds very PAL too.
@SimonUbsdell4 күн бұрын
My voice is indeed very PAL, but the reason for choosing 30fps here is that it makes the result smoother, and indeed a higher frame rate would make it smoother still. (See here for an explanation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onbcmWyQmrmiiLM) If you wanted to stay PAL compatible I would recommend going with 50fps or even 100fps.
@KingZero694 күн бұрын
pal is a dead standard bro... the internet runs on 30fps (or 60/90/120...)
@SimonUbsdell4 күн бұрын
@@KingZero69 I see what you're saying, but I have literally just been working today on the graphics for a feature documentary which is being finished at 25fps, as most European documentaries are. The internet thing is not the only thing ...

Hi Simon. Thank you for those awesome Tutorials. Can I ask you a question. Do you think this After Effects "Fake Long Exposure" Trick is possible with Motion? Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX_Jpax8abtjhq8

You would use the exact same methods in Motion.

@@SimonUbsdell Thank you so much for your answer! Im unfortunately a very beginner in Motion and currently learn Motion with Ripple Training and Linkedin Learning Tutorials but im in only the basics. I came to a somewhat similar result, but I dont know how to implement the Expression. But if you say it is possible than I will learn Motion better and will find out a way to completely replicate it. Thank you!
