Man hank got taken to the cleaners from that other shop. People here stepped up in a huge way to help the musician out with his tour bus bill. We still had a few more items to fix up on his list. He brought the bus back to Nashville for the additional service needed. Safety first comfort second on his repair list.

If they put R134a into a system without replacing all the O-rings and seals, it's shot. R12 uses mineral oil for lubrication, R134a uses synthetic PAG oil, which dissolves the original R12 seals. You can use a different refrigerant, R152a after all the seals are replaced, it also needs PAG oil, but pressures and temperatures are nearly the same as R12. R134a requires much higher operating pressure.

I work on school busses and when we can't find a leak on an ac system we introduce shop air into the ac system through the low side fitting, just rig up a fitting that will go on the low side and spray the ac lines and or condenser evaporator with soapy water, usually it's the hi side hose that's bad.
@ericgiroux320
@ericgiroux320 Жыл бұрын
I use nitrogen, but I have a source I can borrow. I recall reading somewhere not to use compressed air to check for A/C leaks. At a minimum, I would put a dryer in the shop air line.

I second going with the roof top units. You’ll end up chasing leaks only to find in the end you just throw good money on top of bad. That condenser looked corroded at the bottom. I recommend using nitrogen with a little Freon mixed in and use a sniffer to check for leak. Or using nitrogen with a digital gauge to do a leak down test. And leak detector spray as well. Checking for leak using vacuum is not good (with some exceptions) It can introduce unnecessary moisture into the system, making getting below 500 microns a rough process. Also with certain leaks it may not leak under vacuum where it does under pressure. It also can cause trapped Freon to expand and increase pressure causing inaccurate results. But I certainly don’t want to take away even a little all the incredible work you guys did for Hank and everyone else you have helped. Incredible work. Thank you for all you and your crew do (wife included).

MCI/TMC was, at one time, and for a very long time, dedicated to using Carrier Semi-Hermetic Compressors, which served them well! I flew to Pembina in 1982, for the Carrier/MCI Two Week Tech Cert Class; which served me well for many years. The "unloader valves", O-rings, driers, as are the evap motor, evap door gaskets, and the bottom two rows of coil passes on the evap coil itself, are all suspect. The system is new enough to be easily converted to R134A, with the capacities requiring "charge via superheat", and liquid flushing of the mineral oil, and exchange to POE.

Just did the oil change on mine yesterday cause it had the same wrong oil in it from the previous owner and I replaced it with the same Rotella 40wt and same filter you used on Hanks. My bus is his twin except mine has the 8v71. What kind of damage or trouble could the 15w-40 cause these engines? Mine only has 10k miles on the rebuild and the church I bought it from has been running the wrong oil since they had it. I did drop the oil pan on it to look at the internals and it was spotless and no glitter or metal of any kind in the bottom of the pan so that was nice to see. I believe it’s got the wrong antifreeze in it also and need to change it out next.

Definitely agree with deleting the engine driven air and just go rooftop with a good diesel generator. Not that the weight really matters, but there's a lot of weight savings to be had by removing those components. My RV has only had rooftop air for the whole time we've owned it and it really doesn't create issues, maybe a little warm up front in the summer but that can be dealt with.

For the 12 volt accessories picking off the center jumper of the batteries, did the builder include a device to keep them balanced? Is it still working? You have a Cummins not a detroit diesel, you have a 4 stroke not a 2 stroke so you are fine Michael

If you would have watched the original video we discussed how we donated multiple hours of labor to help him on this project. But thanks for asking.
