My country Bangladesh shares the hindustani classical music stream. But I really feel drawn towards the Carnatic form of classical music. The fascination started with hearing the crystal clear and pitch perfect voices of South Indian singers in bollywood. Every composition of AR Rehman with the south voices felt like breath of fresh air. So I started hearing the classical Raga in KZbin. It's really on another level. I just hope commercialisation doesn't corrupt the tradition of such divine music.

it is really beautiful. i knows what you mean by the voice quality i too even as foreigner have noticed some of those especially fine voices as a casual watcher Bollywood film from abroad, that "pitch perfect and crystal clear" quality, perfectly described, glad i know now... i am not so familiar as a foreigner listening to the regional differences but from first moment of listening i am fascinated with Carnatic vocals. so beautiful

i went through my teenage weed phase. but i was so into the 60's. and a major influence in that is ragas, Carnatic, and other asian/indian music. i love Ravi Shankar and i worked at an animal hospital with the cats in the kennels. I brought my bluetooth speaker, and played them music just like this! also native american flute. It made everyone people and animals so much more blissful. I may never travel to India, but itll always have a place in my heart

It is not supposed to mean anything specific. The singing uses a small set of syllables (A-nan-ta) as lyric and sings in a minimalist interpretation of the raga, which in this case is Natakurinji, which has only 5 notes in both the ascending and descending order.

Hey Carl. *Ragam Tanam Pallavi (RTP)* is a three-part song genre seen in a carnatic concerts which is substantially improvising on a particular raga (raga - kind of like a scale or mode in Western music). It is one of those aspects where the performers get to demonstrate the depth of their virtuosity. What you witnessed in this video is the second component of RTP i.e. *Tanam* - a free style improvisation in a rhythmic manner. In case you were wondering the vocalist was using the syllables 'a-nam-tham' as a tool to elaborate the raga. Glad to know you dig it as its usually an acquired taste for novice listeners.
