Never done it but I'm fascinated with people who work the land, excavating, grading, prepping fields for crops, planting, harvesting. Could watch it for hours, always learn something. Thanks for great content.

you mentioned Pizza Hut ?? do you have an old style Pizza Hut in your area where it has a restaurant type seating area with waitresses?? when I was a teenager that what I was used to… go inside & sit down in a booth & the waitress would bring your pizza to the table right from the oven.. nowadays in my area they are like Dominoes & & Papa John’s … drive up window only… I miss the pizza parlor

The Pizza Hut in my old hometown (1970’s - 1990’s) was fantastic! It was very close to the Pepsi corporate headquarters (they owned Pizza Hut then) and many commercials were filmed in that restaurant. I miss them days

Yes! We have the old style pizza hut I wish we had a buffet one like some areas do

The old converted was definitely rotted away. I'm surprised that the new replacement pipe was not tar dipped. Here in Southern Indiana. Both the state and countries use them. Or they backfill with concrete. So the pipe is really just a form for the concrete. Your family did a great job making the place better than before you arrived. Love your videos.

I don't think I've ever seen a tar coated one around here...they need to just be concrete

nice job replacing that long colvert. just amazing how flat the area is when you are finished! love how you flattened out the rusted colvert it is great to recycle materials like that. cannot wait for the next video! How is the building your home?
@dirtgrainsteel2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Well the house is probably not quite started yet at the factory I know we have a factory tour in October to see the house mid way through the build process we will be digging the basement here pretty soon I believe the house will be set end of October if nothing gets delayed

On that last big culvert job, didn’t you have one of the Hitachi’s (your dad) working across from you? Was that because of the size of the job and multi part pipe? Would it be cost effective to have a metal detector on jobs such as this?
@dirtgrainsteel2 ай бұрын
Yes on that job we used to excavator due to the volume of material that needed to be moved and placed on both side of the ditch...well the gas lines are usually plastic maybe a metal detector would pick up the tracer wire I'm not sure never tried it

Kinda surprised you did not replace the short segment of pipe next to control valve. Gotta believe the bottom of it is in pretty rough shape too? Maybe it doesn't matter?

It's aluminum and still solid I'm not 100% that it's even the same age as the long section
@ronaldheit1962 ай бұрын
I don't understand why they used galvanized pipe again instead of double walled ribbed plastic like Mike Dirt Perfect and Chris Letsdig18 does. Those pipes will never need to be replaced. It's mire exspensive but the cost saved replacing steel pipe makes up for the added expense.

If I had my way we would be setting concrete box culverts
@ronaldheit1962 ай бұрын
@dirtgrainsteel even concrete boxes will eventually fail because of the concrete being susceptible to moisture intrusion that causes rust swelling of the steel rebar that in turn cracks the concrete. You can see it in America's bridges, dams and other structures made with rebar reinforced concrete. Especially bridges that are continually exposed to moisture. Double walled ribbed pipes will never fail. Concrete reinforced with the new fiberglass rebar may be the answer. But it'll take decades to see if there'll be issues with the fiberglass caused by the lime in concrete. If all that has to be done in the future is replace the concrete structures at the end of culverts that's not as big a problem as replacing the pipes themselves. Especially given that concrete has no steel rebar in it as far as I know. I've seen them thar were a century old when I was growing up in the first small Michigan farm town north of Flint Michigan. They were all over Flint and the surrounding area. The concrete and clay pipes had to be replaced sooner or later but the end structures never needed to be replaced unless damaged.
