Bought the 501s-s after watching your review. I love my 501s-s, and just enjoy the flights that I have time for. The 501a seems every bit as good, but I am still sold on 5.8gHz for video. Keep up the great work! Thanks for the honesty.

Thanks, RCSaylors, for inviting me to watch this video. It was instrumental in helping me finally choose my first drone. Yes, I'm a newbie, first time owner, rookie pilot :-) Friday evening, I received my Hubsan X4 AIR H501A/HT011A combo, set it up and did the FAA registration. I had a chance to test it out this evening just before sunset. I had went to a few parks in my area outside of no-fly-zones, but there were too many people present. So, I headed to the foothills to a regional park with lot more space. This is where I did my test flight. Here are my impressions: 1) Provided user manual is rather sparse but had just enough information to complete the configuration. I had to download a pdf manual to get additional information about the drone and transmitter that wasn't in the paper version. 2) The OEM battery balance charger is poorly designed. I ended up using the charger I got with the Morpilot extra 2700mAh 7.4V batteries. It works much better and provides better indication of a full charge. 3) Flight Test: WOW!!! I had an awesome time during my maiden piloting of this drone; but cautiously nervous. Took it up to 10m, and later 100m. Flew it around but no further than 40m away. It was very easy to lose sight of the drone and I didn't fly using FPV much. 4) Flight controls. Once I got used to the difference between headless and normal modes, and the aircraft's orientation as related to the flight controls, I started to have some fun. But time flew by (pun intended) and I had to land it after the low battery warning. Now I had 2 fully charge extra batteries, but the sun was setting and I didn't want to push my luck on an already successful first test flight. 5) Auto landing: The 3 times I had it land itself, it only landed on the pad once. The other 2 times, it was off a few feet. This was no surprise to me since I already heard about this GPS inaccuracy for auto landings. NOTE TO SELF. Do not place your carrying case near the landing pad, I almost crashed into it. :-))) Interestingly, this wasn't the first drone I had ordered. I had placed an order 1 week ago for an Eachine E012 Mini from BangGood.com, but it isn't arriving for another week or two. And after watching all of the reviews for different drones, I couldn't wait any longer. I had to get me one, NOW. :-P Regards!!!

I'm going to get the 5.8ghz version of this when I can get some fundage. I traded one of those large trucks from that superficial company for a Mavic Pro a couple of weeks ago. Holy crap, that thing is awesome. I want one of these just to fly around without the stress of having $1200 worth of drone in the air. ALSO!! If you can hear thunder, you ARE close enough to a storm to get struck. It's not as high a chance as if you were standing under the storm, but still a chance. Be safe guys! Great Video!
@TheRcSaylors6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love this comment :-) I think that was a great trade, and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying your Mavic, but I can totally relate. It's a little stressful having so much money in the air. I think you'd love this, or the 5.8 ghz version :) Happy Flying!

Hubsan's page for the H501A* says it's compatible with their 2.4/5.8G transmitters, so after folks have had it a while if they decide they want more range they can spend the 100 or so bucks for an H901A (the tall one with the bigger screen) or H906A (the "pro"). OR if I want to let my middle-school nephew give it a spin, the game controller style HT009, which is just $25. I'd been waffling on whether to get the H501S for almost a year, but I think the H501A has definitely sold me.

How this is a very nice drone, would you recommend this for new drone owners as a first purchase? the picture and video are awesome.
@TheRcSaylors6 жыл бұрын
Yes I would. It's a tiny bit on the expensive side to be a first drone, as I like to recommend something in the $50 or less price point to first time flyers to learn on. This however, is top notch quality and very fun to fly. It's also a lot cheaper than many of the "professional" drones on the market. Happy Flying!

I think it could be used as a budget drone for taking photos (not video) at weddings and real estate. For photos you don't need a gimbal. The photos looked decent. -- I'm one of those weirdos that reads instructions first. When I first got my Mavic I read the instructions and played with DJI Go app for 2 days before I ever took it out for it's first flight. I've taken as long as 2 days to learn cameras before ever taking it out and using it.

Really liked this drone and your review! I totally agree that if it's going to be a GPS drone that the calibration and binding procedures need to be easy and not frustratingly finicky, like many GPS drones can be. Question, since it has those powerful brushless motors, would this quad haul an action cam? Kinda like a Bugs 3 does, if you could rig up a lightweight mount for it? Take care! JP

For aerial photography, would you recommend bebop 2 over this, for the similar price point but stable video (though digital stabilization)?

But hey guys. The quad is actually telling you that for waypoints first write waypoints, then submit. Then lift off and then done. ☺️ It was really simple and i did like that approach myself. Not like Xiaomi mi drone where you have to do this in the air, wich draines battery. ☺️ Nice vid as usually though. ☺️

You can also user normal fpv-googles. It has both wifi-fpv and 5.8G fpv. That is what makes the h501A so great. The h501m i think is the same but not sure though.

That drone looks awesome. Do you know the range? I wonder if you could do image stabilization in post. It sounds quiet too. The Mavic Air won't even do waypoints unless you buy the Litchi app for 25$. Btw I heard that y0u can do waypoints with the Spark now. Have you tried that? I want pizza now too!
