I've never been a huge fan (get it) of the GE90 variants but one thing that is undeniably mesmerising is that start up. To hear that fuel ignite continuously and progress to higher pitches slowly until it's self-sustainable at idle thrust is beautiful.

In 1971, as a 21-year-old, I went on a plane with 2 jet engines for the first time, that was from Schiphol (A'dam) to London ... with a BAC111, I will never forget that plane, but especially those 2 engines. They've become a bit too quiet for me in recent years. These BAC111 engines look a bit like my Zanussi washing machine when it spins at 1400 rpm.😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHLWhneDeNF6eJo

My enduring memory of an AA 777 was flying LHR - ORD to then fly on to LAX. Young Australian meeting new friends in LA. Hearing the American captain's voice over the P.A. "Cabin crew, prepare for our departure" in an American accent made the experience real. (as a young Aussie, always heard the accent on TV, never for real). Start up, then take off was unreal... Holy s@#$ I am going to the USA! At cruise, 41000ft these engines were a dull rumble in the back ground. And my drink barely rippled. The AA 777 was the start of an amazing adventure I will remember forever.

Cool man! My last 737 flight, a week before Christmas last year, the takeoff was so rough, we were shaking, rattle and roll, very bumpy for the first 3-4 mins of flight until the plane settled down into calmer air, the rest of the flight was smooth as glass, but my seatmate, who was on the aisle, I was on the window side, he turned and said to me: I don't remember a takeoff that violent! :D

I don’t think they were retracted that quickly. The acceleration height was probably 1500 feet, but even if it was 3000 feet, plane was light and climbed quickly. But like I said, the flaps were retracted at a fairly normal time.
