Ask 100 farmers that question and you will get at least 200 answers. is it slow growing, discolored patches, fully discolored? What type of soil is it in, what have you done to the soil, what pests do you have and how have you handled them?

There's a bunch to read up on that but generally if the leaves are turning yellow, low nitrogen. Corn is a high nitrogen feeder so manure is good or a general 10-10-10 is okay but it is better to test your soil. You can make decisions also by what was growing there last season and just run with it. The more corn you're growing the more critical you should be. After you fertilize it you should notice a change within 2-3 days.

Those sprinklers have the ability to rotate 360 without taking the guides off, just flip up the L-shaped tab on the back of the sprinkler. You can also dictate if you want the spray interrupted or not by moving the triangle metal plate from one side to the other. Nice trick with the reducer removal, BTW.

@@jamiesouthworth8736 So many people don't know about the tab that can be flipped up for full-360° coverage! On metal sprinkler heads it is generally in the back (opposite the spray), and with plastic heads, it's generally in the front, though there are some exceptions.

I do this too, but it only goes around 360 repeatedly.. is there a way to make it go full 360 then reverse. When impact sprinklers reverse the put out more water in the zone closer to the sprinkler, then shoot further outwards in the opposite rotating direction.

Hey, just a general comment, not trying to say you're doing anything wrong because I love what you've presented. I agree that the well can pump up 500 ft outa the ground and then comparatively the rise above ground of the hose height is not a major concern, but to further that idea, I have found that if you want max flow (and resulting pressure) above ground, you need to pay attention to your hose diameter size. Let me say it a little differently.... If you have too small a hose/pipe diameter, it will amazingly limit your flow downstream even if you greatly increase the pressure back at the supply. It is much better to have a large delivery pipe and lower pressure loss than to try and "cram" more water using high pressure. So if you have a long run to get to your garden and you have a lot of heads or a big flow requirement, the first place you need to address is the pipe/hose diameter making the long run to the delivery site. This is why I always pay extra for 3/4" hoses (and some applications 1" hoses) instead of the very common 5/8" hoses. You get a lot more water delivery. Also, when I built my sprinkler system, I ran a big 2" distribution pipe east/west from the well, and then the sprinkler laterals with 10 heads each ran north/south being supplied off the distribution pipe at regular intervals. A little hydro dynamics. Just sayin'.....

You may want to try allowing the reverse function. Set it for 360 but have it oscillate clockwise then counter. That return gives more water closer in so you get better water distribution. Nice tip on the restrictors!
@Sebastianbailey2001
@Sebastianbailey2001 3 жыл бұрын
Yes do the 360 w the clips. If you don’t it doesn’t water very well from the sprinkler to the half way point of the full circle. Pulse, pulse, pulse, pulse, pulse till it hits the pin and goes back around the other way super fast creating a thicker spray of water. Just one way around sends the water out far in a long stream that can also be adjusted by the screw at the top of the impact nozzle. Impact sprinklers are the best for large gardens or lawns specifically because of the consistency w even water distribution. These sprinklers can be connected together to run multiple impact heads. If doing so don’t daisy chain as you will have no pressure down the line. Run your main line w a y splitter and separate hoses to the other heads. As far as the government regulated crap it’s all about water conservation. I do the same thing when I put in a new shower head. Take the washers or gaskets out to get the full flow. It says right on the packaging it’s a “violation” and against the law. Don’t cut the tags off your pillows either folks. Many cities have restrictions on water usage. Landlords are required by law to install water saving faucets, shower heads etc. They need to do so to pass their inspections. However a private homeowner with their own well or water source I see now harm. I live in Vermont and use three Gould jet pumps to pump water out of the lake for the lawn and gardens. Our place looks like a gulf course lol. I can water 2 acres of grass and large veg garden and several flower beds very easily early in the morning or evening. NEVER WATER TOO OETE IN THE EVENING. Especially for lawns. You want your grass dry out enough before dark. I learned that lesson the hard way. I also share my pumps with my neighbors as they water heavily and our wells are on the same vein. Another hard lesson learned a few years back. Excellent video thanks.

@@Sebastianbailey2001 I'd love to get your insight on how to water 2 acres. I want to renovate an acre and my plan was to use multiple of these orbital sprinklers. I have one of the tripod ones and tried it out this morning. It seems to work fine for about 20 seconds and then it stops working. The 150ft sections of hose I have hooked together almost seem to soften up a bit in that the water pressure just wasn't there. Once I turn the flow off the sprinkler via the shutoff valve on the hose, you can visually look at the hose and see it start to expand again as the pressure comes back. I was running 400ft of hose to it as that is the furthest point the tripod would have to placed. When trying a much shorter hose it seemed to work okay. Any thoughts? I haven't tried this hack yet so maybe that's part of the issue?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know they had the restrictions inside. You might consider tying or taping up your hoses to the T-posts to get the weight of your hoses off the sprinkler. In your video you can just see the hose is bent into a 90 almost cutting your water off that way as well. I had to do the same thing with some upright roll around sprinklers I have. Helped a lot. Good video!

Good point. My local dollar store sell 90 degree hose couplers that would take off the strain. You could tie-wrap the hose to the post just below the sprinkler head. I have tie-wraps that are reusable if the hose has to be removed.

N We have used the same sprinklers for decades. They are durable and work great. Those parts are not "government mandated". The city home can have from 40 to 70 PSI water pressure. With the governors removed the sprinkler would blow apart in a yard at a city home. In your case the pressure is much less from the well. Especialy if you dont have a pressure reserve tank. Removing the governors makes sense and works great. Glad you found those.

The sprinkler head you are using was designed and made for the in town user; less overwatering and adjustments for corners etc. If you want a quality sprinkler head go to an irrigation supplier and get a commercial head. There are many online these days. They do not have all that stuff on them/in them. The nozzles come in different sizes so you can balance the total irrigation system. One sprinkler/head I have will water a 100 foot diameter circle. I make my own sprinkler stands out of old car wheels. Cut one side of the rim off then weld a piece of angle iron across the center hole. Then weld a 90° pipe elbow to the angle iron. Put a female garden hose to NPT adapter on the bottom, install the length of pipe (I use 1/2 “ or 3/4 “) you want in the top of the elbow. At the top of the pipe use a coupler and then install your sprinkler head. You will find that these are easy to carry and easy to move and store for the next use. There is no driving something into the ground and they are very stable. The better way to water your garden is to water it for 12 hours once a week or till you get 1” of water on the garden (same for a yard). This promotes deeper root growth. I usually water mine overnight. Best fertilizer for a garden is 10-20-20. Lower nitrogen/less plant growth and better fruit/vegetable production.

I remove this little things from house faucets, shower heads, pretty much anywhere I see them. Some shower heads have developed a "fixed" restrictor. I usually start with a small drill bit and work my way up in size till I like the pressure. People claim these things save water. If you have to stay on the shower twice as long to rinse,, it ain't saving nuttin

As for a sprinkler head, with a guy who knows how to put down an inch of water, a restriction will waste more water to get you your 'inch'. Gently misting a yard, every hour, to get you your inch per week, would never happen and the roots won't even get wet. You need to hammer on the water as fast as you can, to get an inch per week. Roots will get wet, and less evaporation.

THANK YOU! That second restrictor looks like the one I removed from the faucet pipe under my son's kitchen sink. He's the guy that makes money, I'm the gal who fixes things🤪 I couldn't stand getting only a trickle of water at that sink. After I removed that piece it flowed like a normal faucet. I must admit I enjoyed the kudos as much as having a flow that didn't cause me "mental issues" lol.

That's also true for the shower heading your bathrooms and faucets in the rest of your homes. I always take the little restrictor out wherever I find them. Well...when associated with water. Don't do that with gas appliances or you might burn your house down!

They may have reduced the flow with restrictors to make the head work better when installed at ground level. Those spikes you mounted on top of poles will throw the water alot further than spiked into the ground. With them "slingin" water at ground level you might end up with relatively small very wet circles. But put them 5 to 6 feet on a post, that changes things. Judging by the other videos on the farm you have lots of water everywhere. No worries about conserving at at this level of land use intensity.

I was looking for a good or great sprinkler for my residential yard, I live in the city of Chicago and have a regular back yard with some grass but hate those sprinklers that just go back and forth, I somehow came across your video, your excitement caught my attention and jolly presentation had me smiling and excited too even though I don’t even have a farm, you enthusiasm and excitement is contagious, great video, thanks for sharing. I’m going to hack a water sprinkler today just cause. Lol

The plastic washer you removed from the bottom yes will allow more water volume through the metal spring assembly is just for partial circles and the black vein removedfrom the nozzle is designed to deliver a tighter spray pattern farthe,r so by removing it you have achieved more water drops in a smaller area. Thank you. Hardly "government mandated", but part of the actual design, and I don't think they were originally designed with his application in mind.

A small 45 splitter cuts your flow in half. Gilmour sells a full flow y $7-$8. Aubuchon or any dealer or online order now before spring. Great video need this for the lawn off of a well might add a timer and flow meter to preserve the well. Can run dry in summer. 🙂

I’ve got expensive Gilmour pro impact sprinklers. 10gpm pump set to 38psi and a 15-20’drop down to the garden. Running two drops me from a 30’ throw down to a 20’ throw. Taking them apart tomorrow to see if I can improve their watering abilities!

Gilmour products are crap. Pretty much everything is these days due to government regulations and product all being built in china.
