AWESOME JAMES BOND 007 MUSIC SUITE - MUSIC BY JOHN BARRY

John Barry is James Bond. That unique sound he provided gave the Ian Fleming character that extra dimension of cool. For me the greatest Bond soundtracks would be OHMSS, Moonraker, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and Thunderball. Epic music scores which perfectly matched the scenes and tempo of the movies. Barry's music helped define the look and feel of the films. They enhanced the movies and created audible memories as powerful, and in some cases, more powerful than the visual memories. RIP John Barry, you were the greatest.

The Living daylights was also a standout for me. Purists probably don't like the hybrid sound of orchestra + synth bass + drums, but I think it's done really well and is very effective in the context of the film. e.g. "Necros Attacks". Plus there's wonderful classic cold war orchestra only pieces like "Koskov Escapes" and "Sniper Was A Woman" that is quintessential JB.

I am overwhelmed with the response to the suite, l grew up with the reissue of the early Bond movies on the big screen, years before they where released on video and DVD. In essence l grew up with Barry so l just wanted to put his music out there because without Barry we would not have the Style and swagger of the Bond movies. I may have to put together another suite very soon.....thanks again for listening but thanks for John Barry.

I'll have gadgets like a lighter watch, a taser phone, cigarette (From You Only Live Twice), pen (Goldeneye) and more. But I'll also have this with a lot of classical James Bond tunes and soundtracks played on a loud speaker to give it that 007 feeling. Not to mention I'll talk like Roger Moore.

He was the best. I love John Williams, but for myself, action and adventure was really crystallised with that one name... Bond, James Bond. John Barry's music was iconic as Sean Connery, Q, Aston Martin, Bloefeld, piranhas, sharks, beautiful ladies in bikinis, fights and guns. You just can't separate them out. Apart from less than memorable enemies, the music doesn't stand out for me either.

Barry's music is probably why YOLT is one of my favorite Bond movies. Some of that crazy stuff wouldn't work without the music he put down. All those space sequences, Little Nellie, the fights in the Volcano. That's ridiculous on it's face, but comes off fun with the Barry's Music in the background.

John Barry inadvertently taught me how to read.I was taken to see Goldfinger when I was 10 years old,John Barry's violins in "Alpine Drive" just filled my soul.I immediately went out and bought The Ian Fleming 007 Novels,to try to "hear-read" more of John Barry's music they were just to hard for me at the time.Someone who worked for my father saw I couldn't read the books no matter how hard I tried and took it upon himself to tutor me. Thank you John Barry,Your Music will echo an eternity.

There are multiple versions depending on the film. The first name it's known by is "007 Takes the Lektor" from From Russia with Love, and this particular version is called "Little Nellie."

Thanks for this - but especially for the sections from the restored and extended score for O.H.M.S.S. which is probably the fullest realization of the Barry/Bond sound: lush, luxurious, hip, sauve, dramactic, etc. I know the jury will always be out on Mr. Lazenby, but the whole slick tone of O.H.M.S.S. with its snappy "let's reinvent 007" 20 years before people even invent the concept of reinvention (along with it's gadgetless and not so fearless Bond) holds up brilliantly 40 some years on. And that score (esp. the theme)....well, damn...just lovely.

Like you I grew up watching the Bond movies on the big screen starting with Diamonds are forever and became addicted to the movies, the novels and the scores. In fact I would say that it was the Bond Scores of MrBarry that has led to my lifelong nterest in film scores. I am a fan of all his scores and don't believe he ever wrote a bad one. One thing for sure his Bond scores and their "sound" are timeless unlike most scores these days.

Mr. Barry appeared in a movie in the early 60's directing his own orchestra. The name of the movie escapes me at the moment. Mr. Barry was a very striking man when he was in his prime.

..Thanks everyone for the comments...had the pleasure of meeting Barry twice, l even accidentally stole his baton. Back stage at his concert in Dublin, l was chatting to him and he handed it to me while he was signing some CD covers. I walked off with it and only realised when my mate said what was that. under your arm. l turned around to see John Barry looking frantically for his baton. l returned it quickly, completely mortified......

OHMSS, the Journey To Blofeld's Hideaway, has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music. Barry's use of horns and strings is just amazing. Just when you think you hear the main theme, suddenly a smaller note will come out of nowhere to add even more to the melody. Amazing composer. His work on the poorly received 1972 Alice's Adventures In Wonderland was incredible as well. Too bad the movie was well received. Did you know that the girl that played Alice was later a Bond girl as well. LOL

The 007 Theme, as opposed to the James Bond Theme, is what I think to be the part of any Bond soundtrack. It perfectly represents the classic (pre-Craig) series.
