There are no monsters in the backrooms, but they will still most likely kill you, due to starvation. The only monsters one might see, are just from getting crazy in that infinite maze.

I think some sort of monster(s) would be neat, but not like some of the games have where there's a horde of mishmash on every floor. Maybe humans that have been there for an extended period of time and regressed into critters like The Descent, or transparent man-sized leeches in the pool rooms.

2:00 The developer needs to be careful. Thats a track from Silent Hill 2. This game is indeed being sold for money on steam. Konomi (who own silent hill) could sue the developer for that.

Is the "run" made to look like sped-up footage? That's a clever idea I think, but could do with some other visual cue that this is what is happening. If there was a VHS filter for example.

no, it's just that this game has terrible walking animations, your character takes baby steps, that's why the running looks so wrong.

Good stuff the only thing missing is some sort of goal past trying to find the next elevator. There seems to be no purpose beyond just getting lost or being lost. In other words a person could just sit in the food court and do nothing.

Yes the main loop in most of these games tend to be just fining an exit, some levels you feel so lost it's a great relief to see an elevator. but yes I suppose you could just sit in the food court and do nothing:) Thanks for watching:)

If I possessed Rick Sanchez's level of technological and robotic genius. I would create tens of millions of gnat sized nano machines to explore, film and map the back rooms. Therfore I wouldn't have to risk getting lost and dying of hunger/dehydration. Or being ambush and killed by a monster.

I don't want to be harsh, since this was obviously made by someone with no experience in game development, but I have to point out the awful controls. The walking is too slow, and the running feels terrible. The level design is dull and boring, and it doesn't capture the feel of the Backrooms at all. The Complex Expedition and Dreampools are the only two certified bangers; the rest are just shovelware by amateurs.

any point in these backroom games? I just don't get it. All I see is people using engines like unreal, put some free assets in their scenes with nice lighting and water effect, some (purchased? stolen?) music and call it a "game". what's the end game here?

The point is getting to experience the feeling of getting lost in an alternate dimension, where you can run forever and never find an exit. And despite everything looking familiar, you can tell this wasn't made by humans, and you can't help but feel like you're in danger. Most games are bad, with only two certified bangers: Dreampools and The Complex Expedition.

The concept has not reached its full potential and these amateur-built games will either prove the concept to be popular enough to get a triple-a dev involved or build a community of amateurs big enough to make a game like that. I already think that Return to Render guy and the Lost in the hyperverse guy should get together to make a movie. It shouldn't be too long after that someone would make the quintessential Backrooms experience.
