That "dead end" at the end of the road is my favorite place in the area. The hill you pass on the right before you hit the succor creek crossing has great blue with white banded agate float. There are some dark blue almost purple seams of clear chalcedony in the ground in some spots, there is also chalcedony/jasper seams 3ft wide at points if you follow the fault line up the hill, and an outcrop of dense chalcedony/quartz laden andesite on the north side of the top of the hill. There is a claim marker on the lower hill with a phone number you can call to get permission to dig on it. There is a little triangle split in the road before the area you stopped in initially, if you go left instead of right it takes you into a few areas that have very nice "classic" graveyard point plume agate. The best spots in that area have claim markers (T23S R46E Sec. 25), but there is plenty of good float on the road that goes through it. The Gem Shop Inc. also has their Beverly Marie claim in the area, I haven't found their claim marker yet or seen them working.

I live in Boise and love to rockhound Graveyard Point. The area I go to is in Idaho, but yes right on the Oregon border. My favorite time is in the Spring after the snow melt and rain have washed new deposits down lower. Glad you had fun 😊

Thanks for hanging out and watching! Funny you say that, there’s actually some incredible material that piles up right by the gravel road. Really bright plume agate, etc

The plume agates especially have so much detail when looked at up close. There’s some massive ones that come out of there if you look for long enough

Thank you! The whole region from Idaho out to the Pacific has so many different varieties of agate. And you don’t have to withstand Lake Superior to get them! 😅

Believe it or not, after watching Nikki Delventhal traveling around the country hiking, I had the same idea as you have to travel around the country looking for rocks and fossils selling what I find to pay for the trips. . Now that I see you have 200 subscribers I'm glad I changed my mind. Anyway I'm subscriber 223, good luck 👍

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve found anything cool enough to sell. Not at least at a high enough $ value to pay for gas, food, life, etc. It’s easy to find a few agates, but it’s hard to find things like gem quality material. You really gotta know the local geology for that. Either way, you should get out and try it! Living in a car isn’t too bad. Thanks so much for watching 👊🏻

Grew up literally at the base of Graveyard point and just want to point out that if you come from the idaho side and Graveyard point road the first cattle guard you cross on the main road in is the border if you come from the Oregon side (currently not passable at Succor Creek for normal vehicle) then it's the 3rd guard.
@ThirdPlanetRocks

Oh that’s the actual border? That’s pretty cool. What a neat place to grow up! Thanks for the knowledge

I’m in Boise for a week for work, staying in a hotel. I was looking for places to rockhound in the state and came across your videos. I went exactly where you said you went, and probably left with 60-80lbs of material. It’s just sitting around everywhere! Thank you for suggesting this spot now I have opal in my collection 😊
