I am a bassist who loves Mark style of playing, actually thinking of getting a baritone guitar, learn to play some of these beautiful R&B sounds. I understand his language, what he's trying to say. You should practice both getting aggressive and then being laid back, for sure. Also, there's a lot of calling and answering yourself involved. That makes sense to some people.

From one Brett to another.. I was a little hesitant to buy the course because i wasn’t sure what kind of platform you have for your lesson content. If its going to be easy to navigate etc and would like to tell you im very pleasantly surprised at how well your lesson platform is setup. I have a Truefire membership and i think the Mark Lettieri lesson is one of the best ive ever seen as far as things you’re actually gonna use in the real world of music. Also ive been watching you build this little business for awhile and your playing has come a long way as well as your content. Good on you Brett. You’ve earned much respect from me. continued success my friend! Ps sorry for the gushing comment but i am very impressed so i had to let you know. Cheers!

I couldn't help but think of - rhythm & feel -- as Mark was playing and teaching. The former can be taught, but the latter? That’s a player’s inherent musicality, what connects and unites rudder and keel. And I think it’s the inherent musical alchemy that certain players come to the table with which is most often the piece that students can't articulate. They see and hear themselves playing the rhythm (playing whatever) while wondering simultaneously, why they aren't hearing ‘exactly’ what they want to hear, what they expect to hear, when they put the work in? All that is to say -- the best instructional lessons always seem to make the seemingly ineffable, clear. Thank you both for that. Lastly, I’m not saying that years, and playing, and learning -- can’t help a player to develop a stronger feel. It can. But I think it’s also important to be honest with students about the part that innate (nature plus nurture) musical blessings play. Thank you both again for this useful lesson, and may all your comments be kind.

If you practice 8 hours a day..and I mean focused practice...not sitting around playing all the same stuff you always play..but practicing things you are not comfortable playing...for the period of a year or two...you will be able to overcome any limitation you may have. You have to know what to practice. The thing you shouldn't do is teach a student magical thinking. The sooner you teach a student first how to practice...second what to practice..and then 3rd that there's no magic bullets and the amount of practice done now will be directly related to what they are able to play in the future...they themselves will then eventually realize the futility and pointless exercise it is to try and play like someone else because what they decide to play with a great tool set will naturally be far more meaningful to them. The emulation phase is necessary, no doubts...but the hero worship involved in the thinking that nobody could ever duplicate someone else is top notch absurd. If you want something bad enough as a student...you will not stop until you get it in your hands. Thats where you find out if the student actually is a musician or not. Tons of people say they want to learn...but once it gets tough...they come to realize they wanted the idea of them doing it...they didnt actually want to do it.

Chris Michie, died at 55 in 2003. Ya know, the greatest thing about the internet is that anyone can say anything to anyone anywhere. It’s also the worst thing about the internet. Let me use this power to point you two at Barry Harris and his musical innovations. Please please please look up the 6th diminished scale and his overarching theory behind it. It opened up SO MANY musical doors for me. Robbie Barnby or the Things I’ve Learned from Barry Harris KZbin channel have tons of great videos as well as the footage of the man himself. Love both youz guyz!
