This was an enjoyable father-son project made in a driveway using simple tools(hand drill, jigsaw, and circular saw).
We used a Pocket Hole Jig and created a face for the shelving using a single sheet of plywood to get that clean look.
The cost of materials was about $320.
Truck: 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Double Cab, LT, 6'6" Bed
Cap: Leer 122
Work to be done; cover window, cover safe, add carpet, add lights

Oh my god. THANK YOU for actually sitting in the camper and showing the height and actually saying how tall you are. It has been so frustrating to not see anyone else have the sense to include this presentation. THANK YOU. Cheers.

One suggestion, take out the "Home Safe" sticker and replace it with " Indoor Oven". That's a huge invitation for thieves to crack your window and get anything from in there. Especially when you're in a public parking lot. K! keep safe and hope to see more videos! ;D

Really nice job. The safes a good idea. Average crook wants to be in and out quick and an easy grab and won't risk jail time breaking into what could be an empty safe. Indoor stove is a fire hazard.

Hmmm, I guess I only "liked" your video when I first watched it but didn't write any comment. I really like the way how built everything, it's very neat and looked professionally done. Did I miss you talking about "heat source" or you really didn't cover it? If you didn't, have you considered adding a diesel heater? I've seen a good setup done and he only uses the roof tent. Maybe you should consider that if you haven't which is much safer than bringing in the "heat source" inside the truck. Good job Takeo!

You have done remarkably well sir. The benefits of having a truck bed over 6 feet and a high top. My truck bed is only about 5 feet. I am 6'1". I need to be more creative. But I do like your shelving on the side, I might see if I can incorporate that.

You can use indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive, indoor adhesive would probably be fine but indoor/outdoor might take the moisture better. Just don't use outdoor carpet adhesive cause it may have stronger Voc's. Home Depot sells it in the carpet dept

Thanks for the ideas. I am going with a shell wedge camper (Harker EDC pop up) on my 6.5' F150; with all components removable when I need to haul stuff. I like the safe installed in there. I would go with a smaller one, but great idea and something I had not thought of and probably bolt down on the head wall of the bed. In the truck cab (driver's side floor), I would install my LFP battery, DC/DC converter, inverter, and components (maybe solar charger) with DC cooler above, and like you, with the larger rear seat removed. Thanks

Great build! I have an 8 foot bed; I just wanted the extra room. I just have a regular cab, so I am missing the extra seat and the space in the cab part. It is a great ride for 2, but forget a long road trip for 3 (3+: no way). I have a Leer topper, but it is not the high rise you have (I did have one like yours on my last truck (6 foot bed though). It was nice!). I have built something like yours, but not as elaborate. I like your set up.

This is almost exactly the idea I have in my head, for what I want to do with my truck. Only on a smaller scale, as I drive a Colorado. I have the long bed at least, but I'll still be 4" shorter length and about a foot narrower. And instead of a high rise topper, I'm gonna use a cab height topper with a topper ez lift system. It's cool to get a bit of proof of concept before spending the money.

Nice.... I just put a recliner and a big cooler in mine. Nice to be higher up off the floor, especially when it's cold and you're wanting to recline back and go to sleep..... I'm thinking about getting a recliner with heat air and massage, maybe battery powered... ?

To me these truck camping ideas are reminiscent of the vanning craze of the 70s. Guys would deck out their vans with mirror balls, a bar and entertain the ladies. Not quite the same but very similar in many ways.

Nice build. I too have the Leer 122 for ability to sit upright when inside, mine is on my F-150. I suggest you get some acorn nuts to put on the end of the bolts used to clamp the canopy to the truck bed. These will prevent your sleeping bag or clothing from getting torn or snagged by the bolt.
