Nice reaction! On the piano is the co-writer of the song, Toby Gad. Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. She had just broken up with the man that she loved. Per Toby, they played it for Beyonce one day and she really wanted to sing and use this song, and the rest you say is history. Angelina and Toby have been working together for a while now and are creating new music for her to sing. They teased a song at a special event called Bad Valentine and it should be coming out within a few months. This collaboration is awesome! The Piano Diaries is Toby's project of other singers singing his most famous songs. Who is Toby Gad? Gad is a German music producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. From what I’ve read, after BC Jean and Gad completed the song, they recorded a demo. The song was to be on BC Jean’s debut album. The record company rejected the song and after Jean’s record deal fell through, Gad marketed the song, (as well as others they had written) to established artists. Beyoncé liked If I Were a Boy and recorded it with Gad co-producing. Supposedly BC Jean was not initially happy when she heard that Beyoncé was recording it because she did not originally intend on writing songs for other people because she considered herself an artist. In the end it all worked out.

This song is co-written in 2008 by Toby Gad, the man playing the piano here, together with BC Jean who was the other co-writer, and the first person to sing it. The same year (2008) it was performed by Beyoncé who did make it famous. And now Toby Gad invited Angelina to sing it as part of his new project "Piano Diaries". But there is more: Toby and Angelina have made another video with different instruments of this song produce and filmed by Toby Gad in the streets of London (UK). I think her vocals are the same in both videos, but the instrumental support makes the songs different. And I discovered: Angelina is one of the finest vocalists, but playback singing is not something she is very experienced in (no big deal: it's the music that counts). Toby and Angelina are working on more songs together now. For my taste, but who am I, this version is by far the most beautiful. At the other side the more "poppy" version, which is released last Monday, will probably attract more people. And you are so right: sometimes a song you know is just not your favorite, but we all know: give Angelina a piece of kitchen paper and she will turn it in a musical masterpiece. Isn't it great for her: she really is living the dream she had since she was "a baby" and now she is performing and working with very well known writers, composers and producers who are recognizing her extraordinary gift and apparently give her freedom to give her own twist on songs and covers she performs. That's a result for a person being only 18 years old. We too often forget that... She has a 10 years career behind her... and she is at the start of her career at the same time. A cover only in the sense that what Beyoncé made was a cover of the song written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally performed by Jean in 2008. Beyoncé's cover was that same year. In this video the pianist is Toby Gad .. the Piano Diaries are a celebration of his hit songs. He invited Angelina to England with him to perform .. this is the fourth version I have heard. I am not sure if it is really a cover when a singer is standing next to the composer as they jam to create a different version of the song.

I had mixed feelings about this song when we were being fed all those teasers leading up to this release, but I kept listening and doing my usual with Angelina, falling in love with her amazing interpretation, and now this string/piano studio version in church venue, and I just get lost in her beautiful voice--a tremendous performance. I don't know your “princess Ariani” but one thing's for sure, I will never make this kind of “but without offense” comment under any singer's video. I have far too much respect for the courage it takes to sing with such vulnerability and soulfulness, as Angelina does here, to use that kind of cheap trick to push another singer. If your motivation was to promote "princess Ariani", it's a failure, just a put-off.
