Hey, all of this is well enough described, but in placing your windows (first story & second story) is thought given to having un-notched siding courses traveling over them? If yes, how is this integrated into the whole event? Is it a fantasy on two story conditions or possible? This would surmise that window trim (with some minor flexibility) is manipulated to permit full stacks of siding to abut. Like how a house with thoughtful openings in brick is done.....

"if you are remodeling you definitely do not want to shoot level". how true is this? in so many different applications. I do shoot level when working on my house but only to see how far off everything i am referencing from actually is. if it is too far off i may have underlying problems i need to address first. If it isn't too far off, it's time to rock and roll.

Can you think of any reason not to use LP 1"x2" trim around windows and doors? I never see anyone using anything but the 3" or 4"
@AwesomeFramersАй бұрын
I wouldn't use 1x2 because the trim needs to be thick enough to apply sealant. Plus LP shows in their instructions the trim needs to stick past the siding.

Are you ever concerned about keeping the story pole plumb? Would you ever have the WRB in the same plane as the foundation, leave a 1/4" gap between WRB and foundation, and liquid flash that? What's the reason for letting WRB be proud of foundation?
@AwesomeFramers Жыл бұрын
Good questions. 1)WRB same plane as foundation is fine. Since the foundation walls are same plane as the framing, to keep the house dimensions the same, I just let the sheathing project past. I prefer not to use Liquid Flash there because its time consuming. Zip is our wood structural sheathing + WRB, so that's why it sits outside the foundation plane.
@bertveldhuizen8699 Жыл бұрын
Is there a reason you put your ZIP System sheets vertical and don't stagger them ? Horizontally staggered will be much stronger.

I notice at the end of the video, you where attaching two pieces of siding. Don’t you or do you need to slide a piece of tar paper between the gap? I add a garage onto my house in AL and the city guy told me it was code???? I‘m from SD and our codes are different, I guess.
@AwesomeFramers Жыл бұрын
Nope. So with traditional LP Smart Side lap, sealant is spec'd and more than sufficient. Another detail they have is to leave the gap but put pan flashing or a slip sheet there. This version has a ship lap joint, so no need for sealant or flashing. Where we are nailing and the siding is butting trim on each side, we'll caulk the siding to the trim. lpcorp.com/products/siding-trim/build-with-lp-smartside/installation-instructions?gclid=CjwKCAjwqZSlBhBwEiwAfoZUIB2MgxBRNyypqPd60gAsvCBIP2mT4T-xMGI0gdqNQIN7sCM7RCLZeBoCi3IQAvD_BwE

@@YThatesTRUTH Yep, self-terminating flashing has been used in commercial construction for a long long time. It was invented because its impossible on a commercial project to detail everything to avoid reverse laps due to scheduling. Just a fact of life there. When you look at Zip System, all horizontal tape must be self-terminating for the system to work. More than 15 years of success proves the concept. Just new for a lot of us who've been around for a long time.

Quicker actually they are just paying a bunch of people and it’s easy to use. You’d be better off using wood. Because you will have to paint as often and any imperfections and you get swelling it voids the warrenty
