Just stumbled on to your channel. Been a contractor for 35 years and was lucky to have an early boss teach me how to use a trigonometric calculator when I was in my early 20s. I was laying out all the rake walls and difficult roofs and the 40 year olds hated me. I really appreciate how you work. I tell the guys that work for me all the time, measure, measure, measure, cut, cut, cut, install, install, install. I get lot's of push back from some of those carpenters who think they know everything. Thanks for the upbeat presentation. Yes, I did switch over to a Construction Master with reluctance. Though I still like to throw out inverse tangent, cosine, every once in a while to the know it alls. Keep up the good work.

I’ve framed for 45 years. Used my framing square and had a simple calculator with the square root function. Use your Pythagorean theory. Perfect every time good luck.

I put off getting one for way too long. The people that make the calculators put out a workbook that walks you through it with classic word problems. Got one with the calculator online, 10/10. Its super simple once you learn the basic inputs.

why people want to belittle you (or anyone) for doing something differently yet the method still yields satisfactory (or better) results is comically parochial on their part. The bevelled-rips are a nice touch. It's evident Tim isn't an idiot. He enjoys the craft, so he naturally does it well--better than many.

23:15 I really love that plywood valley pattern! I'm used to usually (measuring top & bottom angle) just chalking a line when sheeting roofs. Hello Big T, Great video yet again. I do have a question about your crowning, then cutting out your rafters, then flipping the tails over to get the other side...aren't you essentially then putting the second series of rafters crown down? Either way, so much useful info here, thank you.

@dougcarlson68004 ай бұрын
Do you need a vent hole in your area at high over framed area. I saw the lower one and it acts as vent and access. The only other thing is over span of the 2x6jacks I would mid span block that. Quick tip on the cut back of a full sheet I like to end on rafters and cut back on rafters of the last full sheet. I found it faster and easier. Old piece worker tip. 😊

I know the common rafter length for that roof, so any jack longer than that would be no good. For the shortest, I just pick 16" and calulate longer from there

We have had 2 telehandlers since 2005. The smaller is in an Ingersoll Rand VR90B and we bought it for $30k in 2003. The Bush Captital Investment program had a number of incentives. In 2005 we were running 2 framing crews, 2 trim crews and a siding crew, so we bought the 1056, again there were incentives. When the market crashed, guys moved on but the machines were paid for. Spoiled? Good business
