In most places in Norway, we use double sill plates and shims on the layout mark between the bottom plates using a fixed height on the rotating laser. This way, we can secure the first plate to the foundation with sill gasket and concrete screws. Then, we do the layout on top of it, marking all four plates before one person cuts all the studs to the same height, and another person shims the first plate on the layout marks. After that, it's just happy nailing, and you are 100% level 96% of the time! Disclaimer: I don't disagree with this method. It's new to me, and I think it's an interesting approach.

Tim- I might have missed this so my apologies if so. I follow your reference mark for each corner, but how are you quickly measuring for each stud? Say one corner is 1/2” lower than the other on that wall. Are you measuring that difference and extrapolating that across the middle studs of the wall? Seems like for me my corners would be close( what form guys paid attention to) but there is a sizable dip in the middle of a wall.

I was watching a Larry Hahn video on framing a house with his brother it typically took 1.5 weeks but filming the educational how to video it would take 3 weeks. What's the point anybody who teaches his apprentices knows theres a cost and distraction involved and sometimes it hard to stay focused on especially a complex wall structure Good stuff Ive been that guy By the way us Canadian Residential Framers use feet and inches what the heck is 38x89 or 38x160 Cheers

Not the English Crown but Moulding ? And twice in over 6 ? Months ! 😀 No bout 12 yrs? Not bad! But ! But! I hv never messed up a huge wall! ( never built one either) but that’s not the point! Kyle ! Like they say in the real world “Yeah? But can he hang a door Mate” ( Scott Brown Carpentry 2022 V 338). I am consulting a lawyer? She is my neighbor ? And she stated it’s definitely slander? However ; She is not sure what kind? Is it possible for you to clarify ? Also the address of the framing school ? Thank you Kyle for the video!

@h2s142 and backwards ? No each time I was dealing with ppl who knew nothing about crown? 1. I asked for 2 pieces over (they ordered their materials to save) and this person gave me one over stating ! And I quote “that’s enough”? Anyway I left after hearing one to many time complaints! 2. The GC installed the cabinets on a job where it was 2 piece crown? Which I install on the ground 1st piece which speeds up the process! And the cabinets were installed wrong ! So I left! That’s it ! And yes it’s upside down and backwards plus I nest my crown I really don’t like on the flat but I can do it ? Hv a great day!

That's not true balloon framing. True balloon framing has no bottom plate. The walls are open on the bottoms.the studs nail to the sides of the floor joists. My house which was built in 1926 is a trueballoon framed house. Even the inside walls are that way. And the windows won't have a header over them . The older timers just nailed a single 2×4 across the top. Same with doors. With the bottoms of the walls open is why a true balloon framed house was a fire trap.

Arrogant? Not at all, just facts. We ask people that come visit, people you may follow like Steve Bascek or Matt Panella if they can tell, they can't. I bet you couldn't tell. That's not arrogance, its just experience. The 16 vs 24oc is way over blown. We've all been on bouncy floors that were 16" oc. My house in fact is that way. Floor system is very bouncy. We built this 24 years ago.
