Dude I am having a ball watching your videos 🤩 I am simply a homeowner diy’er who is about to create a living space in my garage. I come to KZbin for inspiration and nerd out with smart people like you. I appreciate your honesty, reminding us that although you are good at what you do, you are human and can make mistakes. Glad you have fun doing this and making framing entertaining! Ohh coin that! Making framing entertaining! 😂😂

Really like you and your crew and channel. I’ve been around trades for lifetime and it’s nice to see someone w integrity and a good spirit of forwarding the craft through mentoring and guiding younger people bc that’s how I learned, not only skills but also growing into a mature professional. In one scene I saw you signaling the operator. Can I suggest that wearing dark gloves Can be difficult for the operator to Clearly identify your Correct signal. Please do not leave Any margin for error. Simply remove the glove or signal in front of a contrasting color such as your safety shirt or light background. I really like your professionalism in fall protection, job cleanliness, and other trade-smart practices. 👍

Probably things that you have already thought about (or maybe just bad ideas 🤣), but a couple thoughts on standing the wall - could you sheath the bottom portion of the wall with an overhang close to the thickness of the exposed slab edge and subfloor, such that when the wall comes up to plumb the overhang would drop down against the slab edge to offer some resistance against overshooting/tipping toward the machine? Another idea might be braces with an integrated turnbuckle that would allow the wall to be braced just before it comes to plumb, then adjusted into place from there with the turnbuckles. Looks like there are turnbuckles intended for concrete forms that might be easy to modify with extensions on the ends. Always appreciate your videos and always learn something, thanks for doing what you do!

I'm a framer in Arizona. When it starts to rain which isn't often. The foreman draws a circle on the slab. If we get ten drops of rain in the circle we go home. You might say we're weenies. Come on down when it's 120 like all last week.

Tim, I forgot to post this earlier. So you love the lam studs for framing. I can learn to live with them, been chewing on them for about +4 years now. What are your thoughts on finger jointed dimensional lumber? Why would you pick lam over finger joint? And yes the properly specified ones for compression loading.
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 5 ай бұрын
We've used finger jointed studs a few times over the years, I wasn't impressed.
@barrelmitt1544
@barrelmitt1544 5 ай бұрын
Tim, I am not a fan either. So joined together are sections that do not equate to any additional physical properties. The only thing you get is an increase availability of long lumber. What are the underwhelming features that failed the test for you? At least with lams you get cross grain stability, additional physical properties and the length.

Wow, cool seeing another house build with a tall wall! Our video WAS going to be released tomorrow, but my editor lost power 😢. So it will be a livesteam instead. Our wall was roughly 10,000lbs, so many lsls and headers😂 it 20ft tall x 58ft, the lift was BAAAAAD, oh gosh, this lift was a kitten compared to watch my wall snap 😵‍💫. But im glad you got it up in one piece, my husband told me about the wall you cut apart. Gosh, how frustrating 😢

Tim, So do you prime and caulk the LP soffit material when the wall assembly is that grade level? Do you left the 3/16" space that is required by LP. And before you say that's not in our scope, well that's value you can add and get paid for if you get it included in your scope.
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 5 ай бұрын
We don't paint the soffitt at this stage.
@barrelmitt1544
@barrelmitt1544 5 ай бұрын
@@AwesomeFramers Tim, understood. However I just said caulk. As in the butt joints. They're accessible at ground level instead of working on the ladder or scaffolding later. Multiple positive safety impacts. This beyond the positive quality benefit positive fill on the joint and sealing off the edge early. BTW, the content gets better and better maybe it's your dancing ability but I don't think so. I have noticed you stressing the order of operations, training and other areas even more so now then say a year or two ago. Always excellent workmanship. Funny thing I think if you wood butchers decided to undertake finish carpentry the quality level would be way past 10!
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 5 ай бұрын
@@barrelmitt1544 Got, it, sorry about that. Yeah, personally I prefer not to caulk at this stage, even if it was dry to let things move around a little. Since we'll be up there siding anyway and caulking, I just do it then. Thanks for the kind words.

A few reasons. 1) I have to use some taller than 20' 2x6 anyway, so I used these to get the longer lengths. 2) Stiffness during lift 3) Straight and flat

I would have to Dream of getting Planning permission for this Type of Build in England! Financial services would classify as Non-Standard construction and refuse a loan. Planning would think it was a Cabin Holiday Stay even a storage shed. Yet this type of build would solve in part the Housing Shortage in England! The new Government has said it is going to change planning rules??????.
