I released, from the US ARMY in 1978. I remember that, The Knack, was playing on the west coast. They already had a very good following. The fans couldn't wait for tickets to the places where The Knack, were playing. I was 25 when this song hit the charts. Their sound was infectious. I was lucky to see them play. The Knack deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. This band will not disappoint you.

The song is about Sharona Alperin. She was 16/17 years old when she met Doug Fieger (lead singer) introduced by Doug's girlfriend. Doug was 9 years older. He dumped his girlfriend and they dated for a year. She now is a real estate agent in Los Angeles. I've seen the Knack many times. It was a guilty pleasure because I was major into the L:A punk scene.

I read or heard on the radio an interview with her. Decades later she would tell someone her name and she would say Sharona, and they would reply “ oh, as in my…”. Well actually…

@@yourebusted5786 In alot of places, 17 is considered an adult When I lived in South Carolina, and I was 17 and left my mom's 15 yrs ago ,the police and state considered me as an adult Yeah I couldn't buy cigarettes or go in the military, but I was still considered an adult So 17 is not always considered a minor

The Knack was considered a one hit wonder because this song was such a huge hit that people kind of got sick of them. But nearly every one of their songs are good or great. This band was so good and so tight that there was fights from the record labels as to who would sign them. Rumor has it, that they recorded the first album in one take!One of my favorite bands of the '80s. I was lucky enough to see them in concert a little later in their career and they sounded just like the record!

Hi Shawn and Mel wow, does this song bring back memories. In 79 I was in high school. This song was everywhere! Whenever I hear the song I am immediately taken back to the summer and the beach and the sound of this song blaring from car stereos and the loudspeaker on the pier. This kind of music is kind of a hybrid of New Wave. Disco was starting to become more mainstream, even parents were listening to it and taking Disco dancing lessons so my "in-between" generation needed something more "Cool" and then came New Wave. New Wave was mostly rock and roll with a little Punk thrown in. It was fresh and different. And as the 80's came in it inspired a totally different decade of music. I wish that I had a time machine so that you could stand out on the pier with me in 1979, smell the copper tone sun tan lotion, and popcorn, and hear "My Sharona" played through tinny sounding speakers with the waves and the laughter of children in the background. I was so so so busy that year. 1975 - 2001 Hardly had time to listen to radio except in the car going to work or coming home. I might have heard this a few times, but I don't know why I don't really remember it. I had two little kids 1979 to drop at day care, one baby dropped off at his grandma's. On the road, working in office, shopping, cleaning. Basically exhausted all the time. I really could have needed that song at home on the radio while I cleaned or did laundry to keep me going. Now I am 73 years old and dancing in my chair, no little ones around to grab my attention. Not much driving anymore either. LOL

This one takes me back. When I was a very little girl my brother built a roller disco in our basement with things from Radio Shack. We played those Ronco and K-Tel compilation albums you could order by snail mail. This was a pretty popular hit with the neighbor kids in the basement...all skating in circles around the water heater, with flashing LEDs and Christmas lights and a couple 6 inch mirrorballs
