Dave Gahan/Depeche Mode were asked by Bono to make a cover version of this for charity. DM's arrangement is outstanding, and Dave's voice is awesome. He has really made it his own and sings it with such conviction and emotion anybody would think that Bono had copied DM's version! Never cared much for U2 but I'd be foolish if I didn't recognize Bono's ability to write a great song and this here is one. Delicately crafted the set up and at 3:29 we know he's become resigned to the end. First heard it eight years after the 'girl it was written for' had walked away and I think of it every time the next one leaves. A much, much better version of She's Always A Woman and my favorite song ever by them. Tear in my eye I guess...
