My father called this song his favorite. He was an artist, a poet, and a soldier. It was only until he died from drinking did i realized the depths of abyss he traversed daily. I was at a karaoke celebrating my arrival in L.A. after 71 days wandering on the road across the continent when this song came on. Whoever requested it didn't take the stage, and the song just played. When it came time for the vocals to kick in, the entire audience burst out singing. Until that moment, I thought this song was something I adored but few others knew. Imagine my shock when these voices sprang up all around me. We were almost through the first stanza when the requester rushed back to claim the song. They cut the music and restarted it, but for a few more glorious seconds, we just kept singing. Just a chorus of voices, no music. For once, instead of swimming against the current, I felt in sync with the world. For a moment, the world was moving in my direction, singing my song, and welcoming me to join in. I will forever associate this song with that feeling of being connected to and a part of this world. Thank you, Chris. Your voice was with me through the wilderness, while I was lost in the cities and alone in the hills... and it was there again to welcome me back to civilization. Because of your songs, though I wandered, I did not wander alone.

I remember first hearing Chris' incredible voice when I was 4. I was sitting on the floor in the family living room, and the music video for Black Hole Sun came on. I was instantly hooked, and growing up I was always blown away by Chris' amazing vocal abilities. I loved how he could just belt notes effortlessly and I remember telling myself, "Wow, I wanna do that. I want to belt notes like Chris Cornell." He honestly inspired me to start singing and performing at an early age. So much that I continued with my passion and dream of becoming a musician and a performer, and I recently graduated college with a bachelors degree in Popular Music and performance. Chris Cornell has inspired many and touched many with his beautiful, unforgettable voice. Music can take you back to a certain time in your life like a Time Machine… this song takes me back to my single room I was renting with no bed just a tv, stand, and chair I had just moved in after being homeless…. I was an alcoholic. I remember sitting down and calling jobs, looking to get hired . I now new what it meant to be alive I didn’t have a car but I did have a bike and I’ll be dammed if I didn’t put it to use. I found plenty of jobs… there are no friends and your family can turn their back on you, if you’re looking for strength look within don’t look outward. God loves you. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. I believe in you brother and sister you got this.

Zombiezareus I cried too idk even know why I was not the biggest fan but I did love the songs that I knew. I always respected that Audioslave existed too because I thought it was unfortunate that Rage couldn't continue anymore but the three guys still made something great happen and they chose Chris Cornell as a singer! Amazing choice. They got to showcase a new sound together and I'm sure Chris had a lot influence on the whole thing. Soundgarden was always such a "cool" band to me as a kid. I'm really glad I got to see a show by them in 2010. Just a sad loss overall guess thats why it hit me so hard.
