hey Brian, Thanks again and again fro these informative videos. There another Open Source project called DefGuard and VPN manager with SSO built in, I'd love for you to explore and share with the rest of us. cheers.

Let me look into it. I've seen it before, and at the time wasn't overly interested because I had so many others already running. But it may be worth a look just to know how it differs and compares.

How do you verify what version your Netbrid server is running? There is nothing in the Admin panel that I can find.
@AwesomeOpenSource3 ай бұрын
I'd go to the server and look at the images. likely they'll all say latest, but if you haven't upgraded in a while, it's probably a good idea to do it.

Hello Brian, it is a great video, as always on your channel. It would be interesting to watch a video on how to set up site2site connections with Netbird. I am currently using Softhether for that but it implies star topology and all that comes with it.. It would be nice to switch to Netbird (if it is capable of!) since p2p will make the network more redundant and bottleneck free (hopefully). Thanks in advance!
@AwesomeOpenSource3 ай бұрын
Let me see what I can do. I presume you mean setup a connection between two networks where any machine on 1 network can reach any machine on another network without having to setup netbird on every device.

I noticed that the client docker isnt persistant, so it destroys after rebooting the maschine. Is there a way to make it persistent.
@AwesomeOpenSourceАй бұрын
Are you saying you are running the client in docker?
@sternensens9347Ай бұрын
@@AwesomeOpenSource yes thats what i meant
@AwesomeOpenSourceАй бұрын
I think you'll need to determine where any configurations for the client are being stored in docker, then just map that as a volume in your docker-compose file.

Thank you for this - as always - very good guide. Can I then remove the coturn server and the ports exposed in the firewall?
@AwesomeOpenSource3 ай бұрын
Don't remove the coturn server yet. It's still helping the mobile devices, and doing some work, just not all of it.

I'm just getting into the idea of self hosting; is netbird a good way to access my self-hosted services from outside my home network without opening too many ports on my router, or does it require that I still do that?
@AwesomeOpenSource3 ай бұрын
I think it's a great way. You can setup Netbird on an inexpensive VPS on Digital ocean (I have an affiliate link in the description if you want to try their services for a couple of months first), then let that be your gateway with your reverse proxy. Reverse proxy your domains into your network over the netbird VPN. You can just setup a netbird client inside your home network, then make it an ingress point to that network from the netbird VPN, or you can setup a netbird client on any of the servers where you host homelab stuff and use the netbird private ip for that host with the port for the service you are running. Several ways to go about it, and much more secure than opening ports on your network directly.

How does NetBird compare to ZeroTier?
@AwesomeOpenSource3 ай бұрын
I haven't used ZeroTier in quite a few years, and it was fine when I used it, but I found it very difficult back then to get my own system up and running vs using their server setup. I couldn't say how it compares bandwidth wise, etc.

Yes, the functionality built into the web UI for managing, separating, and connecting various devices and networks in Netbird si just too powerful to ignore.

Hi Brian, first of all thanks your videos they are great. when started thinking to set a homelab come across your channel and started setting up nginx proxy manager and next cloud by following your videos and set the dns to both of them. Those were accessing fine for the devices which connected to my wifi. But, unable to access remotely. Can you help me here on 2 things 1. How to make them access remotely. 2 I setup wireguard-easy vpn by following you youtube video and tried to access nextcloud still same issue. I would appreciate How can I achieve this. I did these on by installing docker on windows subsystem for linux i.e. wsl in my old machine which is running on widows 10. If could overcome these thinking keeping dedicated machine only how lab. Hope you'll answer my questions and awaiting for your reply. Thanks in advance, Hari.

If you are the use who found that the issues with windows defender firewall is stopping traffic, you definitely need to address that as a primary issue. If traffic isn't getting through the firewall on the device, you option would be to setup a wireguard docker container inside WSL and put it on the same docker network as the other containers. Then use the wireguard IP to route traffic if it can tunnel out through your windows firewall.

My problem with netbird is that the android client doesnt work. There is an open github issue about this, and it hasnt been fixed since it was posted 20. june. They should focus on fixing things like that instead of adding new features.

@@Simon_fpv the thing is, this may be a step in the direction of a proper fix for the android client as well.

Windows 7 isn't supported by Microsoft, so probably not gonna be supported anymore by other vendors either. Windows 10 has been out for almost (if not more than) 10 years now.
