My therapist did talk about her personal experiences with me. It was helpful as we could relate with each other.
@himanshigandhi58223 жыл бұрын
Him talking about his own childhood and his life was a part of self disclosure. It is a technique used when a client is not able to share a certain experience at all and to kind of open the way for the client to share their own experiences. It is indeed a controversial technique. I also didn’t understand when I had first watched the movie. It was explained to us during my certification in TISS and there is a lot of research out there on the same. Self disclosure must be used very carefully , should be limited and as a part of therapy only.
@yuktaupadhyaya15402 жыл бұрын
Exactly!!! I was going to comment the same.. this technique is used to that the client will open up and it indeed did happen

When this film first came out and watched it, I too had thought that Shah rukh (the psychologist) was being unprofessional by being too friendly and sharing his personal experience and also leading her on. Glad I wasn’t the only one. Overall, he wasn’t bad. ~wannabe/aspiring psychologist.

I've been following you on Instagram since a long time, and now on KZbin. I cannot really explain, but I feel that you are the kind of person who would genuinely care about her clients' and their wellbeing. I think he too started liking her a little bit maybe not the same way, because you see in the starting few therapies he says "this chair creaks when you really like someone." Later he sits on it and it doesn't creak, so he explains "No, it doesn't happen to me." BUT in their last therapy session when Kaira leaves he sits on the chair and this time IT CREAKS. That was very subtle but probably showed that he too felt a personal connection (maybe friendship) with her but choose to remain professional.

I feel in this movie….they were trying to show that even Shahrukh got attached to her in some way and even he was slightly falling for her…as they showed that in the last scene when she hugged him….but he tried to keep it professional still by telling her we cannot meet outside to hangout.
@divyaparmar23363 жыл бұрын
Mamgoat supremacy! But seriously, I loved this review and had similar thoughts while watching the movie. Alia Bhatt's character is usually so stigmatized by our society that it was necessary to talk about it. I don't like how this movie is so underrated and according to my parents, "Really boring!" Anyway, it's my comfort film.
@mounikasampangi35893 жыл бұрын
I think they purposefully tried to make it look like hez leading her for the sake of plot , so as to show how transference can occur in therapy and that maybe how the clients can forget that they are a therapist who is supposed to be accepting of them and not someone you can hope for a relationship with just because they are being kind and accepting.
@radhikarastogi65313 жыл бұрын
Loved the review!! When my friend and I were watching the movie she was a little concerned seeing how the termination of therapy in the movie was very one sided and that's not how it's supposed to be. It's supposed to be something the client and therapist decide on together and it's gradual. But I get how that couldn't be covered in the movie. Also the kursi scene!! You try many kursis like how you try different therapists and see which one works for you. That scene helped me a lot in going back into therapy. Overall really liked the movie!!

In trauma informed therapy, therapist disclosing about themselves is acceptable and actually helpful. As is changing the physical setting of the session, including the body in the therapy. But yes all therapists need good boundaries
@rohitpatel16152 жыл бұрын
@awkwardgoat3 I agree with you on this. There is a bit more experimentation with the therapeutic environment, self disclosure which also led ro transference. But As you said movie maker might have done it to make it entertaining and not turn into a scholarly lecture on therapy for students. Emotional validation, being non-judgmental, being empathetic, good rapport building, making client independent by not helping during cycle fall incident, positive regards etc etc is shown very efficiently. Overall, it's an awesome review! Having said that, regarding that feri rejection incident, I can think of an another angle, Where Jug (therapist) got the hint that kaira (client) is falling for her when she asks for a coffee date. So he might have deliberately rejected her proposal in a cold way to see how she deals with the rejection, if "dealing with rejection" was an issue in her past relationships. In this way he can verify the efficiency of the coping mechanisms that she learnt during her previous sessions. (for dealing with rejection) Since this was not the last session so therapist had things under his control. As client's reaction will be visible in her next session. Again, this is just an assumption, so by nature, has the chance of being incorrect. 🙂

Yk i love this movie so much cause I can really relate to it,i don't feel guilty that I sometimes hate my parents because of the way they treat me or the kind of environment they gave me grow up. Honestly my mumma, she absolutely hates this move, she literally said (when the scene comes where kaira is fighting with her family in the party) that "this is such a ridiculous movie, kids shouldn't be allowed to watch this as they will learn to fight and argue with their parents". I kinda felt bad that she didn't understand the main motive of the film but I was like yeah okay, she has her own perspective,she wasn't grown the way I did. It's normal for her to think that way because she was never taught about all these stuff. Maybe if I was in her place and would've gotten married at a very young age i would think the same.

I would want to know that what is wrong if a person is crossing his personal boundaries by telling personal experiences without being personally involved or willing the other person to get involved emotionally. When every day of our life have so much impact on us and almost everything penetrates at the deeper level of emotions , then I guess there is nothing wrong by crossing little boundaries if that's not offensive in other manner. And the onus of not falling in love falls entirely on patient that's what I believe. Because in movie they have shown this sicne shahrukh has to be proved hero of her life. But when our choices are clear who we like. we can simply be comfortable with almost everything the other person is opening upto. Because loving a person has to do more with interpersonal connection than just a good conversation...
