He took a ride on The Russian Rocket, but still failed to prevent him from scoring hahaha! Was the only time that I ever recall Lidstrom looking silly. Feel free to check out that goal at the 1:48 mark here, in order to see what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJuTeH-naLZpaq8

With all due respect to their ensuing playoff defeats to San Jose, Minnesota, and Anaheim, I believe this game- and the Roy glove gaffe- was the end of the Avs as we knew them.

I'm a Detroit fan but in retrospect, those years when Roy was the bane of our existence were some of the most intense years I've ever seen in a sports rivalry.

@@brevnovak yeah roy was good but hasek outclassed roy when it mattered and hasek was 37 while roy was 36, just shows that hasek was the undisputed best goalie ever

Roy gave us this series. We were down 3-2 in the series then Roy had the first goal gaffe in this game then the game 7 meltdown in Detroit where he gave up 6 before being pulled.

2002 Detroit Red Wings one of the best teams money can buy
@ElStinko-ve6mb
@ElStinko-ve6mb Ай бұрын
That team was built, not bought. Hull was signed at a discount and Hasek was more about the relationship Holland had with Buffalo’s GM. They were a hell of a team but they were built with brains, not just money.

'02 team was pure development. We paid good $ for a stanley cup goalie, but our backup goalie would have started for 90% of the league. Av's were always a tough match back then- they had developed a monster. It was watching superman vs superman and the only krytromite was the time clock, for years. Game 7, tied in 3rd period = better than a superbowl, imho

'06 was the Yankee way of hockey (pre-salary cap)- team only lost 16 games, some due to shere bordem... It was basically an all-star team vs reg teams...we cruzed thu the playoffs... And then met sidney crosby and the penguins.

Miss this 'puck possession' type of play tho. This new 'dump it in and force a turnover' hockey stinks. Im sorry...all that time practicing puck skills and ur offense is based on willingly giving up possession even b4 hitting the blue line.

As bad as the gaffe by Roy was, in all honesty, there wasn't a chance we were getting a puck past Hasek this game. Wings were gonna win this one anyway.
