I used to do the same thing with old preamps like the MP-1, Pirahna, and Voodu Valve. Midi is a cool tool, but with the AX8 you don't really need the Mark IV.

Hi Ryan, amazing video I must say, hat’s off ;) are u using humbuster cables with 4cm ? .. I would like to do the same thing with my Friedman JJ and ax8.. also, would be the voodoo lab control switcher good alternative to discountinued rjm gizmo ? thanks, Tomas

I just want to figure out if the ax8 can be used to change your physical amp channel in a patch...having trouble finding out just this simple thing....

That's a negative without the Gizmo, unless your amp has a physical MIDI port.

Nice videos dude, rock on! I’ve got a Marshall JVM which has midi capabilities, could I use my ax8 to control the amp (like fx8 would do with relays) like creating scenes with different amp channels? I know ax8 is not intended to use that way, but I’d like to be prepared for any possible situation. Thanks in advance dude.

You should be able to do exactly what I am doing here, just flip through the program changes for each scene until you land on the desired channel/fx loop status, etc.

Hey Ryan ! Question ! What strings do you use ? What brand and what gauge/tuning ?

It's pretty much something different for every guitar. Ernie ball 10-52s on the gibson scale guitars (for anything between D standard and drop Bb) , regular slinkies on the Jackson and Tele (E standard, Eb standard, and drop D), Dunlop heavy cores on the H-338 (open tuned Bb, F Bb F Bb F Bb D F), a mashup of Ernie ball 8 string slinkies and some custom gauges on the Agile (F standard, Drop Eb, sometimes drop Ab on the 7th string too).

Plague Scythe Studios Thanks , but 10-52's seem a little too light for drop A#/Bb . How do they perform ? Do they stay in tune ?

They're fine on my SG for the bright sounds I'm going for, but I usually never go past C standard on other guitars with them because they are quite jangley at that point. Plus my SG has a fine tuning bridge and a locking nut, so you can throw it on the ground and it will stay in tune. Some 56s on a 25.5 inch guitar is much better at that point for B or below

Doesn't justify its cost for the full fledged experience IMO. You can get just as good, if not better, results with free alternatives if you are willing to take up a few more insert spots in your signal chain.

Plague Scythe Studios I hear you. It’s mostly for use with iOS because they’re coming out with Bias fx on iPhone finally. One day I’ll get an ax8 or an atomic box but for now I should be able to get decent tones yeah? It’s more gig friendly than the laptop is.
