Thank you! Just got a hand me down MIDI controller I always wanted, and will need to do this eventually. This makes me more hopeful I can do this by the time the port fails. I have soldered cables, but wasn't sure how small the contacts were for the port. It's doable!

I could not believe it when I found this video! I have just "broken" my USB today so I have found this an excellent visual description of what is needed to get things fixed. I am asking a friend to do the soldering but I can do the nuts and bolts stuff. Thank you!

It's pretty easy, just go slow and not too much heat ok. Cheers

@@65Corvette Thank you, advice noted, low heat so no damage and then I can get back to some blooze of a different nature!

Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. My USB jack also failed in the same way. I was able to fix it relatively easily. Without this video I’m not sure I would have attempted pulling my AX8 apart.

Why not replacing it with a usb C?

These ports are always annoyingly hard to get flat on the board

Don't put the board on the packing blanket! There's likely memory on that motherboard and it's VERY sensitive to micro static voltage! Voltages you would NEVER feel can fry them! great video though, didn't mean to come off like it wasn't. Very good work!

Was the problem that the little middle plastic piece fell apart or fell out? If so, can you purchase the little piece of plastic? I have an older external hard drive and it appears the plastic piece in the middle of socket port fell out. Taking apart the casing off the hard drive might be a pain when I have never done it before and taking the solder out, oh no. Thanks for the Video.

Helpful! Do you (or anyone here) know the part number for the volume pot? I know I can get it on the Fractal site but I'm putting in a Mouser order for other stuff and was hoping to save a little on shipping cost with a single bulk order.

I do not have any info on parts, sorry

I still have the plastic part which fell off. Is it possible to use glue to attach it to the pins or will it ruin the connection? I’m not too good with soldering so this would be an ok fix for me

In my opinion you just need to replace the entire jack. You can try and glue the piece in there but be prepared to replace it. The worse part of replacing this honestly is getting the old USB out. Take your time and do not overheat ok. I use sold wick to get the old solder off. Once you get the old one out cleanly putting the new one in is a breeze. I will say do not use a cheap soldering iron as they can do more damage, besides its good to have a nice iron for future stuff. I have Weller WES51 soldering stations, worth it to me. Cheers!

Hey, Recently I am having issues with my AX8. I am not able to switch presets during the gig. Whenever I restart the device, it works well but just for few minutes. Could you please help me with a solution. I am from India and I don't think there is a fractal service over here. Thanks in advance :)

I buried in work right now so probably would be faster for you to find a local tech to help you out. :)
