AXALP FLIEGERSCHIESSEN!! - THE GREATEST AIRSHOW ON THE PLANET? - 4K

I have to put my head on the block and say that Axalp Fliegerschiessen is the best airshow on the planet. At 7,500 feet above sea level it is certainly only for the committed (or mad) lol.
Ive put together Some clips from most displays we had from the three days.
Next week should bring something a bit different if all goes well

It is not an "Air Show" it rather is a day of training open to the public. It started as a day anyone could trek to the top of a mountain and witness Venoms, Hunters and Mirage conduct live shooting exercises. At the time, late 1970s, I saw napalm sticks being dropped.

This reminds me of a clear day back in September of 1991 camping in Interlaken, about an hour after sunrise hearing the roar of the Swiss AirForce doing exercises in the valley! I loved it!

I might have to agree with you. I've been to some airshows with a wider variety of aerial displays, but nothing comes close to Axalp for the beautiful setting and photographic possibilities. For that matter, there are very few places on Earth that provide that sort of backdrop for aviation photography. You also don't see live fire at airshows very often. NAS Pt. Magu in California used to have live fire demos in the early 80s, but they always had trouble keeping boats out of the range area offshore. I'm not sure if they still do live fire anymore.

Stay tuned for Axalp 2023 dates will come at some point next year and the scenery for the whole area is really nice and it happens always at the same period of the year…make sure you eat a cheese fondue once you go down after the show start with a classic one the 50/50 half Gruyere and half Vacherin Fribourgeois it’s yummy ! 😉

One of the VERY best -- the only one better was an airpower demo for bigwigs at Nellis AFB -- live weapons! Watching a A B-52 unload a loooooooong string of 108 500-pounders was a sight to behold, as was watching a a couple of A-10's destroy a few water-filled dumpsters. .....way coool!

In terms of cities San Francisco is definitely the best, but in terms of nature this or the airshow they do sometimes in the UK where they fly through the mountains is pretty spectacular.

Thanks chad, I’m using a canon 1dx2 with a 300mm f2.8 Lens with 1.4 extender. I mount a Panasonic vx990 to the Len’s to capture the video. 100-400 has an ideal range for the Mach loop
