Hi Leon just coming up for air after 2 weeks cramming the FM3 manual and playing through all the amps!!! Just recapping with your video here and I am appreciating your take on scenes and presets. I only ever used about ten presets on my midi board and rack gear! Now I have zillions of choices. But I think you have to tame your options to stop choice confusion

Try this to combat option paralysis - choose your 3 favorite amps and stick to those for a week. Find a cab that works well with them and stick to it. Build some presets that are just amp/cab/delay /verb and focus on playing.

so those "presets" are for me "RIG"s and scenes are for me "presets" haha or are there also a higher level called RIG's? in the parameter/block hirarchy?

If you have a set list with 25 songs, the best way to set this up would be to make 25 presets, correct? I'm thinking you can't do it with scenes because there are only 8 per preset. Am I right? I only ask because I will be using the fractal with a mastermind GT foot controller with the Setlist/song features on. Just trying to figure out the best way to map this out with a set list of songs. And each song having around 4 "presets".

So basically with scenes and channels i can now program my entire set on one patch (As long as there's enough blocks for me to do so). Which means ill have no delay between patch changes.

How do you go about volume leveling across presets?

While editing in Axe Edit on the Axe Fx itself, select layout, scroll over to meters and you can see the levels of each effect. Don't red line them. Adjust each effect or amp level as needed. Then on the output block at the end of the chain, you want to do your output treaking. There is a unity gain line on the output VU meters. I put all my rhythms there or slightly below. I always keep my rhythms output there on 0db. I never move this for rhythms. I adjust output of amp block until you get unity gain or slightly below. You have to determine how much of a db boost you need for your leads. I use channels in the output section so I can change overall volumes 4 times for volume changes. If I can't get enough volume on my leads without redlining, I set the rhythm output gain slightly below unity gain using the amp blocks level so when I change to leads I do not redline. Do not redline. It creates harsh tones and I am sure not good for your unit or speakers either. Once you get one preset done, make a template. Different player want different levels for leads. With this method, I generally have a rhythm, crunch, and two lead volumes with four channels. Also if you have huge presets with lots of blocks, you don't need a lot of presets. You can do it all with channels with one preset. You can actually have about 10 presets and cover any kind of music and effect. If Cliff was to give us 16 scenes and 8 channels, I could probably have one preset to cover it all with maybe a little tap dancing on switches to go from Scenes A to Scenes B.

Hi Leon, not sure if this is right but the transition in "scenes" seemed more fluid than "preset" mode, I think your vids have me thinking fm3 would be good way to get into this stuff!
