An A/B switch is like a 2 input MUX, but this has a lot more inputs. The real question that I was hoping would be answered was how is this different from just parallel routing using scenes and Mute In for bypassing? Is the answer easier control if not using scenes? If using scenes it’s the same right, or is the MUX better in some cases because of the crossfade?

With the MUX you have gapless switching because of the crossfade. Also, in the 1st example it shows how the physical and USB inputs are built into the block, so you don't have to add Input blocks (plus all of the routing that is needed) to your preset. I'm sure there are more reasons, but those 2 come to mind right away.
