Axe Making - Forging a Tomahawk from a Ball Peen Hammer

For some time know I've wanted a small axe for carving or maybe taking with me on a trip. A tomahawk seemed to be the right answer for my needs, so I decided to forge one from an old ball peen hammer.
I wasn't really sure what shape I wanted it to have, so I ended with with a not so wide blade and a longer head. If I had to do it all over, I would probably make the blade a bit wider.
Thanks for watching!

After all these years this is still probably my favorite video you've made. Love the design. It inspired my to make my own tomahawk out of a claw hammer. I cut off the claws and forged the head of the hammer into the blade of the tomahawk. I am going to reforge it soon though because I wasnt satisfied with the performance. Awsome video always

Am I the only one that had the stupid snap judgement of "Oh come on, he's not gonna make a metal pipe handle is he?.... Oh, it's a bigger drift. Right. Makes perfect sense. Duh." Kinda surprised you didn't square the hammer head off a little. Doesn't detract anything from an awesome build, tho. Awesome work.

Great job the only thing I would change is make a spike where the ball peen is. That would make it a better weapon but you wouldn't have the hammer head. And the spike would improve your chances of sticking it when you throw it

River run Knives Good point, although the round handle is quite attractive IMO and would be much easier to make as it only requires the lathe and not a table saw or handmaking with a drawknife

It's mostly a thing for edge alignment, less a thing for hatchets, but it's always nicer to have oval handles. Also, I think it helps with the head, not having to fit a larger thing in it. I love the head anyway
