Cold bluing solution, it's usually used on gun parts to protect the metal against rusting.

It looks like a bluing solution. Could also be a oil based paint in a spray. Although looking at the end product, I’m betting on a bluing finish

I want so much to learn what you are doing. wish you could explain how you are heat treating and at what temperatures and for how much time. I Subscribed anyway hoping you could make a remake of this video and put in descriptions for people like me to learn how to do this correctly . Your videos are great !

I've forged a hatchet out of a ball pein and found that drifting the eye any larger can make the cheeks quite thin. It depends on the hammer head, but there isn't very much material to drift.

Sure, but it's not as dark, tactile or durable as a burnt finish.

So did you heat it twice to temp, let it cool and then heat it a third time and then quemch in water?

Beautiful work, love the repurposing of old steel. I'd like to do this but dread the idea trying to forge it out by hand with the little skill I have. Out of curiosity what ended up going wrong with the first handle?

So - question: The neck of the handle of a ball-peen hammer seems a bit fine for the use an axe would get - I've cracked BP handles by not being careful-enough with them. > Have you had any problems with that (I've never made an axe that didn't end up getting thrown) - ?

Все понравилось, но проушина узкая надо было расширить, ручку лучше как на томагавке без клина, и термообработка, закалить надо было только лезвие, а так форма красивая респект 👍
