I used to have it back in the day, and finished it on hard mode... still waiting for "Axelay 2" though 🕹 Great game, amazing graphics and stupendous music. I believe the team behind the development left Konami to start Treasure, if Im not mistaken.

I've been a big fan of this excellent shooter since it wowed me 😲 back in 1992. I love the vibrant graphics, rousing music, impressive effects, and cool bosses. It's such a great game in all areas. It's up there with the likes of Contra Spirits as one of the finest SNES games.

16 and 32 bit shooters were just some of the best ever made. I can’t say I’ve ever played this game but it looks pretty great with little to no slow down. Nice!!

This is a hall of fame caliber shootemup, in my opinion. If only there were shootemup hall of fame. I believe Axelay achieves this status for catering so beautifully and uniquely to the SNES hardware. The only SNES/SFC shootemup I would rank slightly higher in overall gameplay quality and visuals is Macross Scrambled Valkyrie.

For info, Axelay actually does not use the mode 7 for its vertical levels. It uses a per-scanline VScroll trick and this could have been done on PC Engine or on MegaDrive as well. Chris Covell made a nice demo of Axelay on PC Engine as a proof of concept. Cheers.

I remember when I 1st got this game as a teen.... A local video store did equal trades for games. I forgot was game I traded for this, but wow. 1st the voice quality impressed me and then the game started and wow.

I love Axelay!!! The soundtrack is freaking amazing. My favorite levels is Space Colony level two.

Top 3 SNES maybe. But there are way better shooters on the PC Engine (8-16bits), on the MegaDrive, on the NeoGeo, on the X68000, etc. Peace.

The graphics, music and gameplay are on par with games like Thunder Force 4, which is the best one of MD imo. I haven’t played enough of the PC engine shooters, but the soldier series is amazing as is Gate of Thunder. Still in the same league imo.The sharp console is quite over rated imo.

RadRacer 88 I don’t disagree for the music and graphics. My main issue with Axelay is the gameplay: i find it “soft”, a bit slow, lacking the speed and energy of the PC Engine shooters or Thunderforce IV. But... it is my view and i’m happy to have people disagreeing with me: that’s the charm of retrogaming 😁

I beat this one using save states and emulation. Also I don't remember there being as much slowdown as there was on display in this video

Not a bad shooter, just never understood why the megadrive had so many that where not ported to the snes. Still bewilders me to this day luckily i have most of the megadrive shooters barring maybe 3 or 4 of them.
