Considered it's a home console game from '92, the graphical effects look simply amazing! Axelay is such an original game and it shows the SNES' capabilities, like 3 layers of true parallax scrolling, real transparency and a few decent mode 7 effects.

Axelay was one of a kind as far as I know, I don't think there was another shooter or platformer that used mode 7 the way Axelay did, this has got to be one of the greatest games konami ever put out, loved this game, honestly couldn't remember if i ever finished it, but i'm getting nostalgia chills watching as I remember these enemies and boss fights, so i must have gotten to the end.

Graphics sound and game play are all fine..Mode 7 levels are still impressive....but for a shooter it only has 2 Memorable bosses..that weird Alien/Ed209 rip off and the Flame Cyborg Giant thing on the cover that ends up being a total push over....Also wish there were more power ups.

27:00 Is that fire boss created entirely from sprites, or is most of it made from a background, with just the arms and hands being sprites? And, if it is using a background for the main body and stuff, then why is there so much sprite flickering? I thought the SNES could show more sprites in a row than what seems to be the case here.
