Great info... Crawler innovation foams are definitely a game changer.

Your absolutely right A lot of people worry about getting the foams wet and don't want to try testing new tires and new foams when there is alot to gain on the performance side of it

Leaned the venting lesson years ago. Built the truck in Ohio, and it worked great. Got to Montana and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t climb anything. Turns out the pressure change made my tires literally bounce.

I'm a "no foamer". Never used foams so I can not really comment on which handles better, but I can say, I love the way no foam sags, wrinkles, and contours to the rocks, I just really like the way they look under load. Guess I'm a form over function person. But, with all that said, when I buy my rc4wd lwb, I gonna give foams a shot just because u made such a great presentation. 👍👍

i agree with u about seal air tires. out here in new mexico they wont work to well. there is a lot of cactus and u wont always see them.

Love my lil nova med's in RC4WD gladiators.... easily the best tire/ foam setup I've ever ran. The biggest traction killer for traction on scale tires is lug fold over and tire wrinkle/ wadding.

I use a sealed tire setup on my trx4 because I don’t do much technical crawling and I run in a lot of water and on trails with it
@MY1973FIREBIRD6 жыл бұрын
I find what works best for me especially on a trx4's is to squeeze out a little bit of air, before I tighten the last ring on the beadloc. My foam stays dry and the wheels conform to almost everything. Hope this helps!
@HarleyDesignsInc6 жыл бұрын
It’s still a compromise, you’ve got negative air pressure which will have adverse effects. But if staying dry is imperative, then some down sides are going to be have. The TRX4 is no different than any other rig in the way Gian performs.
@BullgearRCvideos6 жыл бұрын
I am looking to pick up a new set of foams for my rig, the ones that came with my growlers don't squish at all, and since I do videos, I like that effect, and the added performance can't hurt 🖒

i always like your videos!! i am a sealed tire guy lol but i keep the standard axial foams and put the wheels and tires(cut trepadors) in the freezer for about 2 hours before sealing up the beadlocks giving them a little pressure (makes them look good to) but i don't crawl and live in england where it rains all year round so everywhere i go ends up mud bogging :) (scx10 with f250 cab steel rear cage and steel axles/wheels)oh i'm that heavy guy too lol i got brass beef tubes in my steel boom racing axles to lol

hahaha I can remember the first Axial Kit I bought (the betty scx10 kit) and in the manual it said to cut the memory foams to a star pattern. That was in 2009 i think. So i guess memory foams will be the next big thing for the Traxxas guys to discover? i mean they're only 8 years back in experience :D The next thing they might try are the Gmade wheels and tires with the air pump... I'm also a huge fan of the CI foams, but there's always something you can tweak a bit. Thanks for the updates!

i build very heavy trucks, the last mud truck i built is only 28 lb, so i just get the hardest foams that have. air filled is "good" for mud/water with light rig, but nothing else

I tried sealed wheels and tyres with no foams on my first crawler even though I planned on venting them, even put them in the fridge and then sealed them so when they warm up the air would expand giving more pressure!! and that sidewall still folded more than a soggy pancake lol So I picked up a cheap leather punch, put 2 of the smallest holes in the tyre, fitted foams and they are way better like that, Axial foams were way too soft though, Crawler Innovations look real nice but I cant find them in the UK so picked up some 1.9 Proline dual stage foams and they work great on tyres around 120mm. If I go in water a few runs up and down the pavement and most of the water gets flung out.

Great upgrade and explanation video. What about Memory Foams?
@HarleyDesignsInc6 жыл бұрын
Memory foams aren’t really used any longer, they were a short term fad in the mid 2000’s and then Proline kept selling them. I would not recommend them to anyone though.

Josh, I SLEEP on memory foam.... I FEEL why you wouldn't want to use them!!! Also, after wrenching on 1:1 Cars for over 40 years, I completely understand the significant differences between. 1/10th and 1/1... Physics for one. We can NEVER replicate the inertia of a 4000+lb vehicle, with that of a 5+lb vehicle. Our Tires - Rubber, only. 1/1 Tires - Rubber, layered with Steel, Polyester, Rayon or Nylon cords and belts some together, some alone. Our Tire Beads - Rubber. 1/1 Tires - Rubber, with a Steel Bead Ring, forming a positive seal to the Wheel (Beadlock or not), and keep the Bead pressed on to the Wheel. The Sidewall Cords actually wrap around the inner Bead Rings, giving the whole Tire strength...... *You're NOT going to cut holes in the Tread of a full-sized Tire, with a pair of Lexan Scissors!!* 😉 ..... Just a little tidbit for your viewers. Carmine 🚂 PoorManRC

I’m to the point where I want to replicate how 1/1 crawlers spin their tires when on slick rock. Kinda spinning the tires but still getting traction and creeping up the rock. So I went for a smother all terrain type tread and I’m thinking of getting some firm CI lil novas. Should I go closed cell or open or hybrid?
@HarleyDesignsInc6 жыл бұрын
The dual stage setup like I’m running is what I’m running and with a very similar tire.

Harley Designs you mean the BFG Ko2’s? I went with the pit bull Ironsides bravens. I almost picked up the proline ko2’s but my shop didn’t have them at the time. I put the proline foams in from the super swampers but they’re super sof, give my tires the deflated look they and have to much traction lol. Which is good for comp but I want this setup to get less friction. Do you have any vids of a setup on firm foams?

@HarleyDesignsInc6 жыл бұрын
Closed cell foams are air tight, so if you drill the wheel it will plug the hole and not vent. Plus water will not come out of the tire like it will with holes on the outside of the tire.
