Hey GHG, I know most guys are playing with 1940 Global so there are not many resources available for Anniversary Edition which is a shame because I think that this is a good way to get new players to learn and ease them into the game. Most definitely. I noticed it right away. You know you're playing a lot of A&A when you can tell the difference immediately.

for me this version is the best because in one box you have so much stuff, and it doesn't even cost as much as buying europe and pacific. but in my opinion they had to put tactical bomber (with some improvment), because they are more units to choose from and with tac bomber you have 3 land units 3 air and 6 marine( if you don't count AA and factory). There isn't a lot of thing to say with this version, but the only important thing to do is the one indicated above. maybe, only I don't find so many problems and maybe only I want the tac bomber. Sorry for my english but i'm 13 years old and i'm english(or american..).

Great job! It looks like the pieces that are different from the original 2008 version are the German Cruiser, Russian Battleship, Cruiser, & Destroyer, Italian Artillery, and Japan Artillery.

GeneralHandGrenade if your able to figure out a viable strategy for sea lion in the 1941 set up please share. I've had no success the brits just have so much money and air force to sink germanys fleet or to prevent sea lion not to mention Russia will be more aggressive if I devoured resources for sea lion. General thank you for sharing your box opening of this very special edition some of the highlights for me was the fact that you were the first, as big he has noted, To notice the lighter weight of the pieces. In fact it was pretty clear to me even though I haven’t gotten mine yet that the pieces are indeed lighter, about the eighth time I heard the words “these are definitely lighter”. Thanks for posting! Like many others, I am still waiting for mine. I pre-purchased back in May (maybe April?), so it's nice to see that my money was well spent! On a specific note, I don't think anyone will be buying AA guns...6 bucks? Ouch! I was hoping the price would actually drop. I know you only need one per territory, but it would be nice if they were cheaper. Oh well, house rule!

It looks like a great game. I really like the setup cards. They have al of the info you need on the back of them to play the game. For G-40 you had to download ones that someone was kind enough to create and generous enough to put out for free download on the internet. The Wizards really cheaped out when they made G-40 with the cardboard facilities and lack of money, etc. You notice that when you get this one and see what they should have done if they weren't being so cheap.

General Mark and I like to use the money tracker from this game when we play 1940 and we also like to use the victory cities to pick up when conquering Capital territories And put under the power roundel tracking IPCs. On the money tracker. We also put the country rounders on the breakthrough chart for this game but use young grasshopper fortunes a war for the description of the capability marked. Oh.. And I almost forgot we use the little $ pieces to represent the first IPC of damage on top of the color chips in the deployment zone to demonstrate how much factory damage we are buying down at the start of each turn.

Nice open box on this high demand game of Axis & Allies! Such a great game, and cleaverly done to combine two games in one. Not sure if I will buy this again though as even back then it was a huge chunk of change..but then we all bought AnA 1940 haha! Okay, there are few more vid's and on this AnA rush out buy! They are almost identical so there is no reason to buy it if you already have a copy. Good to hear from you again Jon.

The difference in the boxes is there... in the 2008 version the logo (front and back) clearly show the big "50" next to the Avalon Hill logo... in the new 2017 version, the big "50" is not on the front or back of the box... as far as I know, its the only way to tell the editions apart by looking at the box.

I know there are other differences, mostly I was pointing out that if you're buying it in a store, or off ebay and the only thing you can see is the box, you can tell at a glance if its the 2008 or 2017 version you're looking at by looking for that big "50" (if it has it, its 2008, if not, its 2017)... that was what I was getting at... great video btw!

Great Job General! I also got mine today, but was at work and had a family function. I saw that you had posted one, but shot the majority of my footage before watching yours. It should be interesting to compare some of our observations. It's always good to have a couple different perspectives. You did a very thorough job, had good observations and commentary. Note: as of this date ( February 9 2020) Wizards of the Coast no longer supports the product in any form. I have contacted their customer service department regarding the poor quality of the map board ( it is usually warped and does not lie flat ) and they are utterly dismissive of my complaint. That is entirely unacceptable. I advise everyone not to waste money on their scam.

I remember when you mentioned tbe Russian Navy, and i understand this was mostly Germany being ignorant, but i was able to turtle on land, build a decent navy, and made production hard for Germany, basically held them back from Sea Lion

Foxy The Pirate Once I played with some friends, and basically the inexperienced players chose Russia and Germany and built navies, then there was a huge battle in the Baltic but against all odds and being outnumbered, the Soviets won, now my friend refers to the Baltic as "Victory Cove"

I was real fortunate, because it was my first experience with axis and allies. I've heard, it is the most balanced game, Larry ever created. Unfortunately, I had to play the game on my own, so it isn't a fair assessment for me to say how balanced it is, without playing other people, but in my own games, that I played, both sides had equal opportunity. GHG, the main thing, you will enjoy about it, is that Russia and the US are immediately in the war. That is what makes this game fun, but being able to finish it, in the same day, is what sets it apart, for me. I hope that helps, a little, lol. Cheers! John

I would also like to have HBG's custom roundels; www.historicalboardgaming.com/1940-Roundel-Upgrade-Set-160set-_p_2888.html One of my subscribers, Andy Yan, created some player aides and posted them in the comments here. I've pinned his comment so it appears at the top of the comments section. Beyond that I don't think that I would put any big customizations into the game. I have customized the crap out of my G-40 game and therefore it isn't very mobile. With this game it is all in one box and easy to take with me out to the cabin.

The parts in this game are actually much better than G-40. The units are lighter plastic but everything else is good quality. Having real factories, money, and setup cards are a big step up.

The website is: triplea-game.org/ We specialize in live play, but we also have quarterly PBEM (Play By EMail) tournaments for both Revised and the Anniversary edition, which I host, and prizes are donated. There is also an AI where players can practice to get used to the format and experiment with different strategies against the computer. Again, for emphasis, we do not charge in any way for this.
