He very obviously was just causing trouble and had no interest in playing the game, but we promised he'd play a "big role" in the game. ...We gave him France...

One small math note, know I'm years late, but 1 sub vs 1 destroyer/transport is NOT 50/50, since if the destroyer kills you the same turn you kill him, the transport survives. In reality it's about 40% win, 45% lose, 15% kill destroyer but transport survives.

Indeed. Good catch. I had meant that the odds of either side scoring a hit were equal, but you are right in that the transport would survive if both sides hit on the same turn.

Hi Jonathan. Great vid! It’s only logical to start with Germany and you got a philosophy I would call ‘pretty safe’. I would love to see other vids on the other nations so you can experience how well balanced this version really is. I do think the battle in France is a bit hairy and I don’t understand why you would wait taking Finland. It is worth 2 IPC’s and the extra infantry could go back to Norway if you are worried about the British. Oh and eh.. UK could scramble 4 planes into SZ 109 so I would not say it’s a 50/50. Thx again for sharing your thought!

Can’t only up to 3 planes scramble?

Great question! You can scramble up to three planes in a territory with an airbase. However, SZ 109 borders two territories with airbases. The UK player could scramble 3 from London plus 1 from Scotland.

I'm a big fan of Siredblood's work and I've watched his video a few times the last couple of months. We do have different setups, though. For example, he attacks Russia on turn 1 whereas I wait until turn 3. He yields Normandy to Italy as well whereas I don't, etc. What's your concern about Bulgaria? Edit: Sorry about that, I assumed this comment was on my Operation Barbarossa videos that I just put up. I should have looked before responding.

Jonathan, would you be able to DM me? I’m in a Benedictine Monastery and my superior has kicked my buttocks 2 times now. He’s a bit of a chess guy and is a stickler for the rules. One, on upgrades, if you roll for them and 3 die roll a six, do you only get one upgrade shot? Two, do you play the whole world? He’s hard to keep up with and none of the community plays, except us, I need help. Do you know where we can get a cheap 1917? Is there any game that is this detail and this fun, for our next time around. I also have a precursor to this called Conquest of the Empire, without the preset up and much simpler pieces, but same design. Anyway, I hope you read this. We really enjoy the game. I can’t find 1917. I also really need lots of red dice, those are the only things I’m missing. I thought about making a plywood table for gaming to set it up on like in other videos, because we run out of room. We can only play on Sunday afternoons and High Catholic Feast Days, so we need something sturdy to leave out.

Does it matter if war is declared unprovoked or provoked? If yes, what happens differently? Can the USSR and Germany theoretically never declare war on each other? The USSR can’t until turn 4 or later, but could it never if it decided not to?

Yes it does matter, the rule with Japan and U.K./Anzac for example state that if you as Japan attack them before at war then that means it is an unprovoked attack and that not only will the U.S. be able to declare war against you but you will lose your bonus income. If the U.K. or Anzac attack Japan before you attack them then you as Japan could attack them back without losing your bonus, considering the U.S. has not declared war on you yet

Nice video, I have been playing this particular game for awhile now and I really enjoy it, some alternate strategies I recommend trying out are the single submarine attack on the coast of England, they could scramble fighters to protect their transport and destroyer, if I were the U.K. Player I wouldn’t scramble any planes into the main navel assault and use them strictly for defense in case they want to try an Sea Lion attack. I also like to not attack Normandy on turn 1 and instead use those units towards taking Paris, I always let Italy take it over instead for extra support on the West and Germany take Southern France with a fighter, tank, and mec. on turn 1 to give Italy support in the South

Never liked the 40 version, too much unrealistically Axis favored! Really wish someone would make a more balanced version ( might have to do it myself), AND IF DUTCH SEES THIS COMMENT YET AGAIN--- SAVE IT , FOR I KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY 40 BASHING!!!
