Cobra, I really enjoy your videos. You explain your thought process very clearly and spend time explaining what your opponent does and suggest some of his possible motivations. I’m a newbie (bronze after 5 games) and I’m learning a great deal from you. Thank you very much.

Thanks! I appreciate the comment. Don't worry about your ranking, just keep playing. My best rank has been gold and I learn something from every game.

Thanks, mate. I’m about to start playing some axis games. I can beat the Beamdog AI of course, but the triple A one is more of a challenge for me. I can win on “easy” but I’m only 30-70 on “fast” and haven’t tried “hard” yet. Still working on it. 😀

Amazing game, it was a pleasure to watch it - and some REALLY tight battles along the way! Nice one!

On Russia 1, I would have retreated from Ukraine instead of pressing. You let the bomber live, but you save 3 tanks. Also, I think you should consider fortifying the eastern Russian territories to give resistance against Japan rather than retreating all of the infantry.

It feels like every time I retreat from Ukraine on Russia 1 it always ends up really bad for Russia. So it's pretty rare i retreat from that battle anymore.

@@Cobra-2177having watched a few of your games, it seems like you get into trouble with Russia by too aggressively trading with Germany. Your Russian units are far more valuable than Germany’s units. You can’t allow them to just kill 3 tanks so easily.

@@Dialectic42 agreed. And i rely too much on UK pressuring Germany from the west, if I can't do that because of Germany's air power, Russian reserves dwindle quickly

Are there nice rules what is a nice trade for Russia? My guess it the perfect situation is it holds West Russia with lots of troops and artillery (and all surviving tanks), and mainly infantry in Caucasus. It can support nice trades from there (Ukraine or the north). As long as Russia holds West Russia and is in no hurry, tanks are slightly less cost effective. Ideally one would trade just infantry (with fighter support) and slowly increase numbers while Germany moves closer with lots of tanks. Any tips to balance trades? You need to weight potential losses in the initial attack, but also losses next turn (probably doing hardly any damage). In addition losing five infantry might be worth several tanks, but it depends on how much either side has and how close. If Germany overextends itself, losing the Caucasus to loads of tanks might be worth it if you can take them out with few losses combined (from defense and next attack). But in that case you trade without giving away troops twice. If Russia attacks Ukraine early you might not have enough to kill juicy tanks on the counter. But a front closer to Germany does shift income...

Russia 7: that AA gun makes only sense of you leave at least one unit there that has defense value. If the AAs are alone they wont fire. He just needs to step in with 1 Inf and they are gone.

I know I screwed that one up... decided to attack with all my Russian land units after I already bought the AA gun. Poor planning on my part

He could also just fly a fighter or bomber there and the AA wont fire also ..
