Carl is shooting his Savage Axis II .308 at 1000 yards. We're testing the Caldwell camera set up in the video and we still have to fine tune the set up (see Caldwell test video)

Why is the scope mounted so far above the barrel? Flags showing wind blowing to the right of target the whole video.
@desertdwellers7294

I think that the rifle came with a standard 0 MOA mount and Carl needed to use a UTG 20 MOA mount to reach farther out (He didn't have the money to buy a new base mount and already had the UTG). Anyway, just trying to get it to work for distance. As for the flags, I don't think his vision was very good toward to end.

Fair enough. Just thought the scope line being so high from the bore line would make things more difficult.@@desertdwellers7294

Make adjustments to your windage or use your reticle markings. This is hilarious it reminds me of the movie "Grumpy Old Men" 😂

what is this scope set up
@desertdwellers7294
@desertdwellers7294 4 ай бұрын
It was a X-Aegis 6-24 ( a $40 dollars scope from Amazon at the time) The cantilever is reversed to get the scope back far enough for the eye relief. Then he had a UTG 20 MOA mount on the get it to shoot out far. Just what he could afford to shoot long distance.

I'm not sure what ammo Carl was using that day. Probable something that did not cost much. He just liked to shoot and didn't have a lot of money.

@@reaper0662, We don't handload. I often buy remanufactured ammo (because it's cheaper). Carl usually bought Tula or Wolf but he did get some cheap off brand stuff at some local stores. I should also point out that Carl was dying (he passed away late February) but he just like to still shoot even though he could barely hold the rifle anymore.

Pay no mind to these nay sayers, This is how you make a video on sighting a rifle for over a half a mile. No crazy talk about math,dope,bullet types and what company is sponsoring yur shorts. And for ,"oh its so hard to watch folks", the slower you move and shoot,the less the barrel heats up and mulligans your shot

My brother Carl liked that Axis II. He knew he couldn't shoot very good anymore but he like to go out with me and shoot and make videos. The last couple of years of his life he tried to get out and do as much as he could. It was hard on him during the heat of summer and the cold of winter. I often had to clear jams on his 24 Inch AR bolt action (he could only afford the cheaper steel case ammo) or do maintenance on his guns. He did what he could and our other brothers and I did what we could for him when he wasn't able. His health had been deteriorating for several years and he past away about eight months after this video was made. The last shooting we did (and made some videos) was on his birthday three months before his death.
